1.Government has designated financial services secretary Rajiv Kumar as finance secretary. He succeeds Subash Chandra Garg, who was shifted to the position of power secretary. Kumar has played a crucial role in initiating banking reforms for state-run banks.Garg served as the economic affairs secretary.

2.NITI Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission will launch a new programme for Community Innovation in New Delhi. It aims to encourage the spirit of innovation in the country. It will be jointly inaugurated by Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank & Dharmendra Pradhan.Atal Innovation Mission Director - R Ramanan.

3.RBI relaxed norms for end-use of money raised through ECBs. ECBs with a minimum average maturity period of 7 yrs can be availed for repayment of rupee loans availed domestically for capital expenditure as also by NBFCs for on-lending for the same purpose.ECB (10 yr avg maturity)can be used for working capital purposes.

4.India and Myanmar inked a Memorandum of Understanding on defence cooperation aimed at enhancing military training, joint surveillance, and maritime security to further strengthen their military ties.Armies of India & Myanmar held 2 phases of 'Operation Sunrise'.

5.DARPG in association with MeitY, GoI & Meghalaya govt will organize the 22nd National Conference on e-Governance 2019 at Shillong. 7.Lok Sabha passed the Consumer Protection Bill that seeks to establish the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) to protect and enforce consumer rights. The CCPA will take immediate action after a complaint is filed by consumers.The bill would replace the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.

8.London has been named as the world's best city for students for the 2nd consecutive year, beating international cities like Tokyo & Melbourne that came 2nd & 3rd respectively. The 'QS Best Student Cities Ranking' compiled by QS Quacquarelli Symonds.Indian Students in London registered a hike of 20% in 2017-18.

2.July 30 is celebrated as World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. 3.India’s seventh Economic Census began from Tripura and a similar task would be launched in other States and Union Territories across the country next month. 5.According to the report by Wood Mackenzie, India's renewable energy cost is the lowest in the Asia Pacific. The levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) using solar photovoltaic has fallen to $38 per MWh. It was 14% cheaper than coal-fired power.India is the 2nd largest power market in the Asia Pacific.

6.Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that the Sachivalaya or Secretariat building in Bhubaneswar will now be called ‘Lok Seva Bhavan’. The Odisha secretariat building was inaugurated on Nov 12, 1959, by Home Minister Govind Ballabh Pant.Odisha Rasagola recently got a Geographical Indication tag.

8.India has signed a deal worth around ₹ 1500 Cr to acquire R-27 air-to-air missiles from Russia to be equipped on the Su-30MKI combat aircraft. They have been acquired under 10-I projects which mandate the 3 services to maintain critical weapon systems.R-27 missile is a medium-to-long-range air-to-air missile.

9.Scientists at IIT Hyderabad have developed low-cost, environment-friendly solar cells by employing an off-the-shelf dye used to make Kumkum/vermilion in India. A dye-sensitized solar cell is based on New Fuchsin dye with an aqueous electrolyte.DSSC devices tend to get degraded with atmospheric moisture.

10.In Gujarat, senior BJP leader and former Lok Sabha MP Vithalbhai Radadiya died. He was 61. He was the six-time MLA and also served as a Minister in the Gujarat government. He was considered as a popular farmers' leader of Saurashtra.

1.India now has 2,967 tigers & growth in the 4th cycle of the Tiger Census has been a 33%. PM Narendra Modi released All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018 emphasising that India has achieved the target of doubling tiger population 4 years before deadline.Madhya Pradesh saw the highest number of tigers at 526.

2.The third edition of Khelo India Youth Games will be held in Guwahati next year as announced by Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. It will be conducted in partnership with Indian Olympic Association, School Games Federation of India & Assam as host State.2019 Khelo India Youth Games were held in Pune.

3.IPS officer VK Johri has been appointed as next Director General of BSF. He is presently serving as the Special Secretary (RAW), under the Cabinet Secretariat & will take over the charge of the BSF from incumbent Rajni Kant Mishra, on 31st of July.He is 1984-batch Indian Police Service officer of MP cadre.

1.The Goods and Services Tax Council lowered tax on electric vehicles to 5 percent from 12 percent earlier. It also reduced the tax rate on the EV chargers or charging stations to 5 percent from 18 percent.The new tax rate will be effective from Aug. 1, 2019.

2.According to US Aerospace company Boeing the first four of 22 AH-64E Apaches helicopters ordered by India had been received by the Indian Air Force at the Hindon Station near New Delhi. An additional four Apaches will arrive in the coming week.Apache - First attack helicopter in India’s defence arsenal.

3.Private sector general insurer Digit Insurance will soon be entering the health insurance segment. The company that currently sells motor insurance, international travel insurance, home insurance and mobile insurance will sell medical policies as well.Digit relies on technology for claims settlement as well.

4.Food and beverages major PepsiCo India is planning to invest Rs 514 crore over the next three years to set up a greenfield snacks manufacturing plant in Uttar Pradesh. 1.Uttar Pradesh has become No.1 in implementation of PM Suraksha Bima Yojana. 1.95 Cr people have been given insurance cover under the scheme till 31 Mar 2019. People can get accidental insurance cover of ₹ 2 L by paying a nominal premium of ₹ 12 annually.UP stands 2nd in the execution of PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.

2.Govt has reconstituted the GoM looking after the issues of how to prevent sexual harassment at workplace & strengthen legal frameworks with Amit Shah, replacing Rajnath Singh. Members are Nirmala Sitharaman, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ & Smriti Irani.GoM on sexual harassment was set up in October 2018.

1.India improved its ranking in the global innovation index by five places to 52nd in 2019. The GII rankings are published by Cornell University, INSEAD and the WIPO and GII Knowledge Partners.Switzerland retained its number-one spot on the index.GII ranks 129 economies based on 80 indicators.

2.NTPC has signed a pact with BHEL to set up an 800 MW technology demonstration plant (TDP) at its power plant in Chhattisgarh. TDP shall be based on the advanced ultra- super critical technology. 3.Scientists in Bangladesh have developed a method to convert Jute fibre into low cost bio-degradable cellulose sheets named Sonali . It can be used in garments & food packaging work & they are not harmful for human health.Production cost of Sonali is higher than polythene.

4.India's central bank had assigned deputy governor B.P. Kanungo to run the monetary policy portfolio after the resignation of fellow deputy governor Viral Acharya. He would become the sixth member of the Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee.Kanungo is also responsible for currency management portfolio.

1.India’s mega defence exhibition ‘DefExpo’ will be held for the first time at Lucknow in 2020. The main theme of the event will be ‘India: The Emerging Defence Manufacturing Hub’ and it will focus on ‘Digital Transformation of Defence’.In 2018, DefExpo took place in Thiruvidanthai.

2.International Media have hailed India's successful launch of its 2nd moon mission Chandrayaan-2. It aims to become the 1st mission to conduct a surface landing on the lunar south pole region, where it will collect crucial info about the moon's composition.India wants to put Indian astronauts in space by 2022.

3.Two-time Olympic gold medallist Keshav Dutt & former India Football Captain Prasun Banerjee will be conferred the 'Mohun Bagan Ratna'. It will felicitate pacer Mohammed Shami and Ashok Chatterjee will be given the Lifetime Achievement award.July 29 is celebrated as the 'Mohun Bagan Day'.

4.IIT Madras have developed a ‘smart agricopter’ to eliminate manual spraying of pesticides in agricultural fields & help identify crop health by using an imaging camera. 5.According to the RBI data, Maharashtra topped in ATM frauds in 2018-19 with 233 cases. Delhi grabbed the second spot followed by Tamil Nadu. Assam, Arunachal Pradesh & Tripura were the only 3 states that didn’t report a single incident.No of incidents of ATM fraud increased from 911 to 980 in FY19.

2.Bengaluru has topped the list of ‘most digitised cities’ accounting for highest card payments in a study conducted by Razorpay.
