1.India improved its ranking in the global innovation index by five places to 52nd in 2019. The GII rankings are published by Cornell University, INSEAD and the WIPO and GII Knowledge Partners.Switzerland retained its number-one spot on the index.GII ranks 129 economies based on 80 indicators.

2.NTPC has signed a pact with BHEL to set up an 800 MW technology demonstration plant (TDP) at its power plant in Chhattisgarh. TDP shall be based on the advanced ultra- super critical technology. The plant can reduce the CO2 emission by 20%.Gurdeep Singh - CMD, NTPC Ltd; Nalin Shinghal - CMD, BHEL.

3.Scientists in Bangladesh have developed a method to convert Jute fibre into low cost bio-degradable cellulose sheets named Sonali . It can be used in garments & food packaging work & they are not harmful for human health.Production cost of Sonali is higher than polythene.

4.British PM Boris Johnson has appointed Indian origin Priti Patel as Home Secretary. She had been a member of the ‘Back Boris’ campaign for the Conservative Party leadership. Former Home Secretary Sajid Javid appointed as the Finance Secretary/Chancellor.Downing Street is the official residence of Britain's PM.

5.Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Subhash Chandra Garg will be the Power Secretary. Atanu Chakraborty has been appointed as Secretary in Department of Economic Affairs.Anshu Prakash – Secretary, Department of Telecommunications.

6.As per the data from central government, Gujarat has stood first in the country with total 261.97 MW of installed rooftop solar capacity. Maharashtra & Tamil Nadu have solar rooftop installations at 198.52 MW & 151.62 MW respectively.Total rooftop solar installations in India is 1700.54 MW.

7.PM Modi has released the book on former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar in New Delhi. The book titled 'Chandra Shekhar- The Last Icon of Ideological Politics’ is written by Deputy Chairman in the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh and Ravi Dutt Bajpai.He founded YOUNG INDIAN, a weekly issued from Delhi in 1969.

8.Bandhan Bank Ltd has appointed State Bank of India's Sanjeev Naryani as its head of the business. He will lead the private lender’s branch banking, wholesale banking, agri-business, retail lending, third-party products and digital banking verticals.Chandra Shekhar Ghosh – MD & CEO of Bandhan Bank.

9.Cabinet has approved the merger of National Institute of Miners' Health with ICMR -National Institute of Occupational Health. It would help them in terms of enhanced expertise in the field of occupational health besides efficient management of public money.Minister of health and family welfare – Dr. Harsh Vardhan.

10.Former Chinese Premier Li Peng has died at the age of 90. He was best known as the ‘Butcher of Beijing’ for his role in the Tiananmen Square crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in 1989. He was the first Premier of the People's Republic of China.Li Keqiang is the current Premier of China.
