ONE LINER OF THE DAY 18th SEP 2019


1.Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg and the Fridays for Future youth movement received Amnesty International’s ‘Ambassadors of Conscience’ award for their work highlighting the need for urgent action to avert climate disaster.She has been protesting for climate protection.

2.Asian Development Bank President, Takehiko Nakao has announced his resignation which will be effective from January 16 next year. During his tenure, he expanded the operations of the funding agency from USD 14 bn in 2013 to USD 22 bn in 2018.

3.Defence minister Rajnath Singh stated that India will achieve 26 Billion dollars Defence Industry by 2025. Defence sector has been identified as one of the most prominent sectors under Make in India initiative to realize 5 trillion-dollar Economy by 2024.India aims to develop 25 Defence Specific AI products by 2024.

4.Govt has waived 3-year lock-in period on investments made by non-residents in infrastructure debt funds, to promote funding in the infrastructure sector. The amendments in the tax laws were made to provide an exemption from income tax to IDFs in 2011.IDF - Investments which accelerates the flow of long-term debt.

5.Airtel Payments Bank has launched Bharosa savings account services, designed for deepening the financial inclusion in India. SB account would offer ₹ 5 L personal accident insurance on maintaining balance of ₹ 500 along with one debit transaction per month.Airtel Payments Bank HQ – New Delhi.

6.The trilateral naval exercise ‘SITMEX’ b/w India, Singapore & Thailand commenced at Port Blair. It is aimed at bolstering the maritime inter-relationships between the countries & contributing to enhancing the overall maritime security in the region.Bold Kurukshetra is an army exercise b/w India and Singapore.

7.Researchers from IIT Kharagpur have developed an approach of generating electricity from drying clothes in the natural ambiance by utilizing tiny channels in the cellulose-based fabric network woven traditionally.Stored energy is enough to glow white LED for more than 1 hour.

8.ISRO inked MoUs with DRDO for development of human-centric systems for the Gaganyaan project. Space food, space crew health monitoring & emergency survival kit, radiation measurement & protection, parachutes for safe recovery are to be provided by DRDO.DRDO Chairman - Dr. G Satheesh Reddy.

9.Indian Air Force has flight-tested air-to-air missile Astra off the coast of Odisha. It was launched from a Sukhoi Su-30 MKI combat aircraft as a part of User trials. It was tracked using radars, electro-optical tracking sensors & struck its target.Indian Air Force Chief – Birender Singh Dhanoa.

10.Cokie Roberts has died at the age of 75. She worked in radio and at CBS News and PBS before joining ABC News in 1988.
