ONE LINER OF THE DAY 17th July 2019


1.President has appointed Anusuiya Uikey & Biswa Bhusan Harichandan as Governor of Chhattisgarh & Andhra Pradesh respectively. Also, Kalraj Mishra was appointed as Himachal Pradesh Governor, replacing Acharya Devvrat, who has appointed as Gujarat Governor.

2.HDFC Bank & CSC launched a co-branded ‘Small Business MoneyBack Credit Card’ for small traders & village level entrepreneurs. It is designed for CSC’s VLEs, VLE-sourced customers & will give users easy access to credit for their day-to-day business expense.HDFC Bank MD - Aditya Puri ; CSC Chief - Dinesh Kumar Tyagi.

3.SIDBI has introduced a web-based application system for contribution from Fund of Funds for Start-ups to improve the turnaround time and increase transparency. SIDBI is the implementing agency for FFS with a corpus of Rs 10,000 crore.Mohammad Mustafa - Chairman and Managing Director of SIDBI.

4.German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen has been elected as the European Commission's first female president. She will replace Jean-Claude Juncker. Her nomination was approved by 383 votes, 9 votes more than required to secure an absolute majority.Head office of European Commission – Brussels, Belgium.

5.Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju conferred Arjuna Awards to tennis player Rohan Bopanna and women cricketer Smriti Mandhana. Bopanna who won the tennis gold medal in men’s double category in Asian Games 2018.Mandhana was the ICC women’s player of the year 2018.

6.India & Italy have decided to set up a fast track mechanism to facilitate investors & companies. The main aim of the system in India will be to pave the way to identify &solve problems faced by Italian companies & investors with their operations in India.Italy: Capital – Rome; President - Sergio Mattarella.

7.India is set to be the first recipient of local currency financing by the Asian Infrastructure and Investment Bank. Local currency financing provides more options to borrowers India is the second-largest shareholder of Beijing-based AIIB with a 7.5% stake.AIIB annual meeting will be held in Luxembourg.

8.The 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship has begun in Cuttack. 12 countries including Australia, England and Malaysia are participating in the event. The event is organized by Table Tennis Federation of India & International Table Tennis Federation.Amalraj Anthony Arputharaj is associated with table tennis.

9.Vijayveer Sidhu won the gold medal at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany, combining with Rajkanwar Singh Sandhu and Adarsh Singh in the men's 25m pistol event. India maintained its top spot at the medal standings with 7 gold medals.

10.Lt Gen JS Gharaya, who was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra in the 1971 Indo-Pak war and Kirti Chaka in the 1947 Hyderabad operations, passed away. He was 93. During the 1971 war, he was commanding a brigade in the Jessore Sector on the eastern front.Kirti Chakra is the second-highest peacetime gallantry award.
