ONE LINER OF THE DAY 13th JAN 2018.

1. The ASEAN Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry and the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, Fourth ASEAN-India Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry (AIMMAF) on 12 January 2018 in New Delhi, India. The Meeting was Co-chaired by E. Mr. Grisada Boonrach, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand and H. E. Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India.

2.South African pacer Kagiso Rabada, who recently became the top-ranked bowler in Test cricket, is the youngest bowler ever to top the ICC Test rankings for bowlers. Rabada achieved the feat at the age of 8,261 days, surpassing the record of former England bowler George Lohmann, who became the highest-ranked Test bowler aged 8,288 days in February 1888.

3.To celebrate the idea of unity in diversity, the Ministry of Culture is organising the 7^th edition of the Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat matrix in Karnataka beginning January 14, 2018. The Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Ananth Kumar and The Union Minister of State for Culture (I/C) and Environment, Dr. Mahesh Sharma will inaugurate the Mahotsav on 14^th January 2018  at the Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Palace Road, Gandhi Nagar, and Bengaluru.

4.Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar unveiled Sanjay Manjrekar’s autobiography ‘Imperfect’ at a South Mumbai. The former India batsman-turned-commentator also spoke on his frosty relationship with Sachin Tendulkar and his favourite skipper Imran Khan. Sanjay Vijay Manjrekar is a former Indian cricketer, he played international cricket for India from 1987 until 1996.

5.The Indian economy is expected to witness an average GDP growth of 7.3 per cent over 2020-22, says a Morgan Stanley research report.According to the global financial services major, the structural growth story in India remains strong from a medium term perspective.

“The uptick in the private capex cycle, which we anticipate will begin in 2018, will ensure that the economy enters into a sustained and productive growth cycle,” 

6.India has granted a financial assistance worth over ₹288 crore ($45.27 million) to develop Sri Lanka's Kankesanthurai (KKS) Harbour into a commercial port. Sri Lanka’s ministry of finance and Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) signed an agreement in this regard. The KKS Harbour was destroyed by the LTTE during Sri Lanka's civil war.

7.The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam  commonly known as the LTTE or the Tamil Tigers)  was a Tamil militant organization that was based in northeastern Sri Lanka. Founded in May 1976 by Velupillai Prabhakaran, it waged a secessionist nationalist insurgency to create an independent state of Tamil Eelam in the north and east of Sri Lanka for Tamil people.

8.Dampa Tiger Reserve or Dampha Tiger Reserve, the largest  wildlife sanctuary in Mizoram, India was notified in 1985 and declared a Tiger Reserve in 1994.Dampa Tiger Reserve consists of Dampa hills, Pathlawi Lunglen hill, Chhawrpial Hills and many others. It is called Dampa because a long time back there used to be a village called Dampa where a lot of the womenfolk died, hence a lot of lonely bachelors were left behind, hence the name "Dam pa" or "lonely Men.

9.Mahasweta Devi's 92nd Birth Anniversary (14th Jan 1926 ): The Ramon Magsaysay awardee passed away in July 2016 following age-related illness. She was honoured with the Jnanpith Award in 1996. Counted among South Asia's most decorated authors, Mahasweta Devi was also bestowed with Padmashri, Padma Vibhushan and Sahitya Akademi award.

10.Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City in Karnataka will have 250 smart poles to charge electric vehicles. The poles, which are expected to cost Rs. 10 lakh each, will act as WiFi hotspots and will feature remote-controlled LED lights.
