1.RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das launched a mobile app, MANI - Mobile Aided Note Identifier, to help visually challenged people to identify denomination of currency notes by using the camera scan such that an audio output will give the result in Hindi/English.Id-features on Rs 100 note emblem- triangle; Rs 2000- 7 lines.

2.UIDAI has opened 28 Aadhaar Seva Kendras as part of its plan to open 114 stand-alone Aadhaar Enrolments & Update Centres across the country which are in addition to about 38,000 Aadhaar enrolment centres run by Banks, Post Offices & State Governments.CEO UIDAI: Pankaj Kumar.

3.4 Indian Air Force men have been selected as candidate astronauts for India’s 1st human space mission scheduled for 2022. ISRO Chief K Sivan announced a fresh attempt to soft-land a spacecraft on the Moon via Chandrayaan-3 mission.ISRO preparing to build 2nd spaceport at Thoothukudi district.

4.Swarna Jayanti Fellowships were awarded to 14 Scientists associated with projects containing innovative research idea & with potential of making impact on R&D in the respective disciplines, so they can pursue research with freedom & flexibility.It was instituted to commemorate 50th year of independence.

5.An estimated 4 lakh babies were born around the world on New Year’s Day, as per UNICEF. Of this, an estimated 67,385 babies were born in India, most globally while China came in 2nd. Each January, UNICEF celebrates babies born on New Year’s Day.Fiji in the Pacific most likely delivered 2020’s 1st baby.

6.Election Commission has launched an online system, Political Parties Registration Tracking Management System (PPRTMS) to allow political parties track their applications for registration with the poll panel on a real-time basis.Registration is done as per Representation of People Act, 1951.

7.Former Guinea-Bissau Prime Minister Umaro Cissoko Embalo has been elected president after winning a run-off vote against another ex-prime minister. Guinea-Bissau is situated in the Atlantic coast of West African continentCurrency: West African CFA franc.

8.HDFC has received approval from Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India to acquire 51.2% stake in Apollo Munich Health Insurance – a JV b/w Apollo Hospitals & German reinsurer Munich Re Group.IRDAI Chief: S C Khuntia; HQ: Hyderabad.

9.Palau has become 1st country to ban sun cream that is harmful to corals & sea life. Palau, which lies in the western Pacific about halfway between Australia and Japan, is renowned for its marine life.US state of Hawaii announced a similar ban effective from 2021

10.The New Development Bank (NDB), formerly referred to as the BRICS Development Bank, is a multilateral development bank established by the BRICS states (BrazilRussiaIndiaChina and South Africa).According to the Agreement on the NDB, "the Bank shall support public or private projects through loans, guarantees, equity participation and other financial instruments."
