1.India finished 2019 as the top shooting nation in the world, leaving behind Olympic heavyweights China and the USA in the International Shooting Sport Federation’s (ISSF) overall rankings for 2019. 2.India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will receive the Polly Umrigar Award for his performance in international cricket in the 2018-19 season. Poonam Yadav has claimed the top prize in women's section and will be awarded the best international cricketer.Poonam Yadav recently received the Arjuna Award.
3.Sakya Singha Sen & Debojyoti Chakraborty have received 1st Merck Young Scientist Award 2019 given by Merck. Award is given to researchers with less than 10 years of experience with expertise in solving some of the toughest problems in chemical sciences.Merck is a science and technology company operating worldwide.
4.IndianOil and Oil India Ltd have signed an agreement to collaborate on a CO2-assisted Enhanced Oil Recovery project in Assam. They will develop Carbon Capture, Utilisation & Storage (CCUS) as an effective emissions mitigation tool to combat climate change.Agreement will also improve oil-well productivity.
5.Bipul Behari Saha, a noted chemist has been elected as a bureau member of the International Union of Pure & Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) for the period 2020-23. Bipul Behari Saha is the second Indian after CNR Rao to be elected for this position in a century.IUPAC-largest global organization of Chemistry professionals.
6.The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti, organised the ODF Sustainability workshop in New Delhi. Swachhata Darpan Awards were presented by Amir Khan to the best performing districts on key swachhata parameters.Actor Amir Khan is the founder of Paani Foundation.
7.The World Future Energy Summit will begin on 13 January in Abu Dhabi. 33,500 participants from 170 countries and 800 specialist exhibitors are expected to attend the four-day annual event. 11.The deliberations of the two-day workshop-cum-exhibition on Bamboo with the aim of creating opportunities for the sustainable development in J&K concluded at Jammu. It recommended the promotion of the use of bamboo as construction material for eco-tourism.Capacity building of J&K farmers/artisans was also discussed.
