1.Government released the State Energy Efficiency Index 2019, which tracks the progress of Energy Efficiency initiatives in 36 States & UTs. The index is developed by Bureau of Energy Efficiency in association with Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy.The first such Index was launched on August 2018.
2.Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated two projects named VISWAS (Video Integration & State-wide Advance Security) & AASHVAST that will play a key role in preventing crimes in the state. AASHVAST-Online portal to pay E Challan & Cyber Crime Prevention Unit.‘Netrang’ project: establish Command & Control Room in 33 dts.
3.Union Minister for Women and Child Development and Textiles-Smriti Irani launched ‘Yashaswini Scheme’ for Women entrepreneurship at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Goa along with the Swasthya Sakhi Project and breast cancer screening initiative.Scheme provides free loans of up to 5 Lakh Rs.
4.Union Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched ‘Mission Purvodaya’ in Kolkata, aimed at the accelerated development of eastern India through establishment of integrated steel hub. It also includes employment opportunities across the entire value chain.Govt target 300 Million Tonne steel capacity by 2030-31.
5.Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the state-of-the-art Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal through which people can report cyber-crimes online. More than 700 police districts relate to the portal.It will improve coordination among the law enforcement agencies.
6.PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate the 150-year celebrations of the Kolkata Port Trust. He will launch various capacity augmentation projects of the Kolkata Port Trust worth 600 crore rupees. The projects will be related to shipping and heritage conservation.It is the only riverine Major Port in India, situated 232 kms.
7.The naval version of indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), made its first successful landing on the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya. This aircraft is developed by DRDO. LCA is the smallest & lightest Multi-Role Supersonic Fighter Aircraft of its class.DRDO Chairman-G. Satheesh Reddy.
8.In a bid to encourage use of high-grade agri-inputs, the Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation (GAIC) has launched imported water-soluble fertilisers from China. It also plans to launch customised grades of stage-specific and crop-specific fertilizers.Fertilizers will be sold in the market under its brand - 'AGRO'.
9.India attended the Hormuz Peace Initiative that was held in Tehran. The initiative was aimed at stabilizing one of world’s busiest shipping lanes, he Strait of Hormuz amidst US-Iran tensions. China, Oman and Afghanistan were also present in the meet.‘Hormuz Peace Endeavor’ was proposed by Iran in September 2019.
10.Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen secured a landslide victory in presidential elections with voters resoundingly handing its first female leader a second term. Her main rival, Han Kuo-yu of the China-friendly Kuomintang (KMT) party, has conceded defeat.Taiwan Capital-Taipei, Currency-New Taiwan dollar.
11.The foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen inaugurated the 18th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival. During the festival 220 films from 74 countries will be screened across various venues in Dhaka between 11-19 of January 2020.Theme: ‘Better Film, Better Audience and Better Society’.
12.Chinese researchers investigating the cause of a mysterious pneumonia outbreak have discovered a new strain of coronavirus, a species of viruses that can cause deadly illnesses such as severe acute respiratory syndrome & Middle East respiratory syndrome.Outbreak took place in the city of Wuhan.
