1.The first regional conference of eastern states on Water Resources was held in Kolkata on April 16 to address the outstanding water issues of these states.The conference deliberated on finding a solution to mitigate intra and intra-basin issues relating to water resources in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal.The issue of interlinking of rivers also come-up for discussion at the conference.
2.Yes Bank announced the launch of ‘Yes GST’, an OD (over draft) facility for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Through this, an MSME can avail OD up to Rs 1 crore, based on their annual turnover, backed by GST returns. Any additional assessment of balance sheet or bank statements will not be required. This OD facility can be availed by an MSME against mortgage of residential or commercial property. The sanctioned amount can be utilized by the MSME either fully or in tranches.
3.World Haemophilia Day is recognized worldwide on 17th April every year to increase awareness of haemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders.The theme for World Haemophilia Day 2018 is “sharing knowledge”.
4.The World Bank has forecasted a growth rate of 7.3 per cent for India this year and 7.5 per cent for 2019 and 2020.It has also noted that the country's economy has recovered from the effects of demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax.
5.The Union Government has stated that the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana or PMGSY is well on its way to achieving the target by March 2019. The scheme, since its inception in 2000, has been able to provide connectivity to more than One lakh 50 thousand habitations. Sensing the importance and urgency of rural roads for national development, the target date for completion of PMGSY-I has been preponed from 2022 to 2019.
6.Kerala will host the India Skills Kerala 2018 – in Kochi from April 28 to 30, as part of the World Skills India 2018.The event is aimed at identifying and training talents to get medals at the World Skills Competition Kazan 2019.The proposed India Skills Kerala 2018 is an avenue provided to the youngsters in the State to showcase their vocational skills.
7.India has won an election to a crucial Non-Governmental Organisation committee in the UN.The UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) held elections to a number of its subsidiary bodies.The ECOSOC focusses on advancing the three dimensions of sustainable development economic, social and environmental.India topped the election to the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations.
8.Veteran journalist S Nihal Singh breathed his last at the National Heart Institute following illness. He was 88.He was the founding editor of The Indian Post in 1987.
9.The International Monetary Fund (IMF) stated that India is expected to grow at 7.4% in 2018 and 7.8% in 2019 and would re-emerge as one of the fastest growing major economies in the period. The IMF explained this is due to the strong private consumption as well as fading transitory effects of the currency exchange initiative and implementation of the national goods and services tax. According to the IMF, India will leave its nearest rival China which will grow at 6.6 in 2018 and 6.4% in 2019.
10.Every year, 18th April is celebrated Worldwide as World Heritage Day to create awareness about Heritage among communities. This year the theme is 'Heritage for Generations'. The theme emphasizes on the inter-generational transfer of knowledge. In India, World heritage day will be celebrated at National Rail Museum, New Delhi. There are total 36 world heritage sites in India, as designated by UNESCO.
