1.In Nepal, the famous Bisket Jatra is being celebrated in Bhaktapur and other parts of Kathmandu valley.The nine day annual festival marks beginning of Nepali new year.The Jatra begins four days before the start of new year.The main attraction of Bisket Jatra is chariot procession of Lord Bhairavanath.
2.The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has announced that it expects India's gross domestic product (GDP) to grow at 7.3-7.7% during the 2018-19 financial year.This is based on strengthening demand in the rural economy, including agriculture and non-farm activities, as well as better global growth climate.
3.Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a five-day official visit to Sweden and the United Kingdom (UK) today.Apart from bilateral visits to the two countries, Prime Minister Modi will attend the India-Nordic Summit and Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Sweden and the United Kingdom respectively.
4.As part of the drive to double the income of farmers by 2022, the government has raised the authorised capital of NABARD by six times from 50 billion to Rs 300 billion to help it increase its lending to the rural economy.The increase in authorised capital will enable Nabard to respond to commitments it has undertaken, particularly in respect of the Long Term Irrigation Fund and on-lending to cooperative banks.
5.Odisha’s second longest river bridge opened.The bridge has been built over the Ib river, which is a tributary of Mahanadi river, in Sambalpur district.The 2.5-km-long bridge, which is the State’s second longest bridge, has been built in three years.The bridge has helped in establishing direct road connectivity between Sambalpur and Brajarajnagar and the distance has now been reduced by 50 km.
6.Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra will be conferred with the prestigious Raj Kapoor Lifetime Achievement and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani with Raj Kapoor Special Contribution awards. Maharashtra Culture Minister Vinod Tawde announced the names of the winners.The state government-instituted awards will be given away at the 55th Maharashtra State Marathi Film Festival.
7.A loan agreement worth USD 48 million for the “Meghalaya Community – Led Landscapes Management Project (MCLLMP)” was between India and the World Bank.The objective of the project is to strengthen community-led landscapes management in selected landscapes in Meghalaya.
8.The Reserve Bank tightened reporting norms for the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) under which an individual can transfer up to USD 2,50,000 abroad in a year.The LRS transactions are currently permitted by banks based on the declaration made by the remitter.The scheme was introduced on February 4, 2004, with a limit of USD 25,000.
9.The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2018) has begun in London, the UK. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in the event on 19th and 20th of April.The theme of the summit is 'Towards a Common Future'. The biennial event has brought together delegates from 53 Commonwealth nations.
10.Ministry of External Affairs in cooperation with Germany and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs will host the India-Wiesbaden Conference 2018 in Delhi on April 16-17.The conference provides an opportunity to participants to share experiences on their export control systems.India has established a legally backed robust export control system to implement ‘UNSC 1540’.
