ONE LINER OF THE DAY 18th JAN 2018.


1.India has re-approved a deal to buy 1,600 Israeli anti-tank guided missiles.This comes as PM Benjamin Netanyuhu is marking the first visit by an Israeli PM to India in 15 years.

2.The 60th edition of India International Garment Fair (IIGF) was inaugurated on the 17th of January by Minister of State for Textiles, Shri Ajay Tamta, at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.The three-day international fair being held at Pragati Maidan caters primarily to the Autumn/Winter season of European Union, USA and other Western markets.

3.India International Garment Fair (IIGF) :The fair started in 1988.The fair is being organized by Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), in association with International Garment Fair Association and four major Garment Exporters' Associations, viz. Apparel Exporters & Manufacturers Association (AEMA), Garment Exporters Association (GEA), The Clothing Manufacturers Association of  India (CMAI) and Garment Exporters of Rajasthan (GEAR).This is a B-2-B fair and is meant for conducting meaningful and quality business.

4.India has successfully test-fired a long-range intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).The nuclear-capable Agni-V is believed to be India's most advanced ICBM.It was fired from Abdul Kalam island off the coast of the eastern state of Odisha.It called the test a "major boost" to the country's defense capabilities.The intercontinental surface-to-surface ballistic missile has a range of 5,000 km. 


5.SAREX 18 :It is a joint search and rescue exercise between India and Japan to help increase mutual understanding in Anti-Piracy operations.During the exercise, helicopters of the Japan and Indian Coast Guard will perform cross landing operations to improve compatibility between the two forces.This year, it will be held in Chennai.

6.HDFC Bank becomes the 1st Indian bank to cross Rs.5 tn market cap.The bank is also only the 3rd Indian company to achieve this milestone after TCS and Reliance Industries.In the last one year, the bank’s shares have gained around 55%.

7.Market capitalization is the aggregate valuation of the company based on its current share price and the total number of outstanding stocks. It is calculated by multiplying the current market price of the company's share with the total outstanding shares of the company.

 Market capitalization is one of the most important characteristics that helps the investor determine the returns and the risk in the share. It also helps the investors choose the stock that can meet their risk and diversification criterion.


8.IN line with the increasing military cooperation between India and the US, yet another edition of the joint military exercise ‘Vajra Prahar’ will be held at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Seattle, in which a 45-member Special Forces team from Indian Army’s Southern Command will train alongside US soldiers in the third week of January.

9.The Andhra Pradesh Government and the NITI Aayog on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Amaravati to develop an online dashboard for the 115 most backward districts in the country.The MoU was signed in the presence of Vice-chairman of NITI Aayog Rajiv Kumar and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.The districts were identified on the basis of objective criteria such as education, health, nutrition, basic infrastructure like rural road connectivity, rural household electrification, access to potable water and individual toilets and others.Most of the listed backward districts are in Jharkhand, followed by Bihar and Chhattisgarh. 

10.The Center sanctioned Rs 10,000 cr worth projects in North East for better network connectivity.Two MoUs have been signed to cover the uncovered areas in the North east including Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.Manoj Sinha, Telecommunication minister, has been given to upgrade the network connection in border areas.
