ONE LINER OF THE DAY 6th MARCH 2020


1.Union Government has sanctioned ten projects worth over 301 crore rupees in food processing sector under the Agro Processing Cluster Scheme of Kisan Sampada Yojana, to generate employment for ten thousand people and benefit nearly forty thousand farmers.Food Processing Industries Minister- Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

2.PM Modi will address inaugural session of the Economic Times Global Business Summit. He will be addressing delegates from across the world. Broad theme of Global Business Summit-2020 is “Collaborate to Create: Sustainable Growth in a Fractured World”.2020 edition of GBS will be held in New Delhi.

3.BIMSTEC charter will be ready for adoption at its next biennial summit meeting scheduled to be held in Colombo later this year. This was informed by BIMSTEC Secretary General Mohammad Shahidu Islam. 5th BIMSTEC Summit will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.BIMSTEC was formed in 1997 & the first Summit was held in 2004.

4.The Fourth Global Ayurveda Festival (GAF) will be held at Kochi in Kerala from 16th-20th May. A curtain raiser event was organized in New Delhi in this regard. The theme for the five-day event is Ayurveda Medical Tourism: Actualizing India's credibility.It will be the largest Ayurvedic event ever held in the world.

5.Namaste Orchha festival started in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh. Orchha is famous for its Ramaraja temple as well as other historical buildings. 3 days Namaste Orchha festival is an attempt to creating new opportunities and initiatives to promote state culture.Business meet and KisanMela will also be organized.

6.In Mizoram, the biggest and most joyful festival of Mizos, Chapchar Kut is being celebrated across the state on 6 March. It is also regarded as the most popular spring festival to the people of the state. This festival is a public holiday in the state.Mizoram Chief Minister- Zoramthanga.

7.Govt has imposed a withdrawal limit of 50,000 Rs for depositors of beleaguered private lender Yes Bank for one month. The limit on withdrawal comes with a few exemptions, in cases like medical emergency, higher education, marriage & unavoidable emergency.Yes Bank's board has been superseded for a period of 30 days.

8.Mumbai is set to host the 2023 International Olympic Committee's session after the IOC Executive Board suggestions. The decision is to be ratified at the 136th IOC session in Tokyo in July 2020. After a long gap of 37 years India is hosting the session.India last hosted an IOC session way back in 1983 in New Delhi.

9.Sports Authority of India, in association with Hockey India announced the first edition of the Khelo India Women's Hockey League Under-21. Hockey India organizes the event at 3 different venues- 1st phase will be at New Delhi from 23rd to 29th of march.2nd & 3rd phases will be at Bengaluru & Bhubaneswar.

10.PV Sindhu was named as the Sportsperson of the Year at the fourth Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA) 2019. She also bagged the Unbreakable Spirit of Sports award. Former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia was given the Lifetime Achievement award.Hockey legend Balbir Singh Sr got the Icon of the Century award.

11.A 2-day Workshop-cum-Awareness Programme on the Skill Development for Unorganized Workers under Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Scheme concluded at Kulgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The programme was organized by District Employment & Counseling Centre, Kulgam.Monthly contribution for the scheme is 55 to 200 Rs.

12.Bangladesh-based international development organization BRAC has retained its position as the top NGO of the world among 500 global NGOs. The rankings for 2020 were announced by the Geneva-based organization NGO Adviser which publishes the list annually.BRAC was founded by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed in 1972.

13.Researchers from Raman Research Institute- an autonomous institution under the Department of Science & Technology, have devised a new test for fairness of quantum coin/ qubit- the basic unit of information in a quantum computer- using entanglement theory.The new test uses entanglement to test the fairness.

14.Competition Commission of India organised the 5th National Conference on Economics of Competition Law in New Delhi. The Conference, in addition to the Inaugural Session, included two technical sessions where researchers presented papers on economic issues.Ashok Kumar Gupta is the current Chairperson of the CCI.

15.Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Urban Livelihoods Mission signed a MoU with Amazon for e marketing of products made by SHGs across the country in urban areas. MoU aims to strengthen the mission of creating sustainable livelihoods in urban areas.DAY-NULM is under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

16.During India’s Smart Utility Week, India & European Union called upon Integrated Local Energy System to work upon clean energy and climate. Alongside of the collaboration, India and Sweden are to work on Smart Grids. These projects are to be funded by DST.DST- Department of Science and Technology.

17.ICONSAT (International Conference on Nano Science and Technology) is the series of biennial international conference held in India under the aegis of Nano Mission, Department of Science and Technology. 2020 edition of the conference was held in Kolkata.Venue: S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata.

18.Black carbon concentrations near the Gangotri glacier rose 400 times in summer due to forest fires and stubble burning from agricultural waste, and triggered glacial melt, says a study by scientists at the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology (WIHG).Monthly mean concentration was found to be minimum in August.

19.Scientists used the gene editing tool Crispr-Cas9 (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) inside a person’s body for the first time, a new development in efforts to operate on DNA to treat diseases. Gene editing was tried 1st in 2017.This has been achieved at the Oregon University, USA.

20.Google will open a Delhi cloud region making it as the company’s 2nd cloud region in India since the launch of the Mumbai region in 2017. Google’s existing network has 8 cloud regions in Asia-Pacific & 22 regions globally. It will also open data centers.Data Centre Venues: Toronto, Melbourne and Doha.

21.10 PSBs- Amalgamation of Oriental Bank of Commerce & United Bank of India into PNB, Amalgamation of Andhra Bank & Corporation Bank into Union Bank of India, Amalgamation of Allahabad Bank into Indian Bank, Amalgamation of Syndicate Bank into Canara Bank.Amalgamation would result in creation of seven large PSBs.

22.The Home Ministry has given approval to the Automated Facial Recognition System for identification of unrecognised bodies, missing children and criminals. The approval has been accorded for the implementation of AFRS by the National Crime Records Bureau.AFRS will be accessible only to law enforcement agencies.

23.Bangladeshi citizens travelling to India will have the option of 2 more land port entry points. Bangladeshi visitors to India will be able to enter India from Bhomra & Akhaura side of Bangladesh connecting Gojadanga & Agartala respectively on Indian side.Existing land ports are Benapole and Petrpole.

24.Women & Child Development minister Smriti Zubin Irani released a book titled Chronicles of Change Champions in New Delhi. The book is a compilation of 25 innovative initiatives taken at the state & district levels under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme.Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme: Launched on 22 January 2015.

25.Bimal Julka was sworn in as the new Chief Information Commissioner of the Central Information Commission. President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office. Number of Information Commissioners has fallen to 5 as against a sanctioned strength of 11.Bimal Julka will succeed Sudhir Bhargava.
