ONE LINER OF THE DAY 7th FEB 2020


1.Mizoram won the final of the Junior National Football Championship for Dr BC Roy Trophy at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong. They beat Punjab 5-4 on penalties as both teams finished 1-1 in regulation and extra time.Punjab won the trophy in 2015-2016.Bidhan Chandra (BC) Roy, Former Chief Minister of West Bengal.

2.Reserve Bank of India has announced the creation of a digital payments index (DPI) by July 2020. The index will assess and capture the extent of digitalization of payments effectively. DPI has been conceptualised as a composite scoring system.Fiscal deficit is budgeted to decline to 3.5% of GDP for 2020-21.

3.MPEDA with the assistance of the Centre will take up the upgradation and modernisation 25 fishing harbours in the country at a proposed outlay of Rs 2500 crore.The project will start with two harbours namely Thoppumpady in Kochi in Kerala & Nizampatnam.Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA).

4.Britain appointed career diplomat Philip Barton as its High Commissioner to India to succeed Dominic Asquith.Barton will take up his appointment during Spring 2020. He joined the FCO in 1986 and is a career diplomat.He was Private Secretary to PMs John Major and Tony Blair.

5.Airbus India and Adani Defence signed an agreement on to leverage synergies in aerospace and aircraft services, a fast-growing sector that is estimated to generate annual business worth USD 6.3 billion in the country by 2025.Anand Stanley, president and MD of Airbus India.

6.NASA's astronaut Christina Koch returned from space to Earth safely. Koch returned after an 11-month mission, breaking the world record for the most time spent by a woman in space.She has spent 328 days on International Space Station (ISS).She surpassed the record of American Peggy Whitson (289 days).

7.China has started clinical trial for remdesivir medicine in coronavirus treatment in Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital.A 68-year-old male patient with serious symptoms was the first to be given the drug. Newly confirmed cases rose by 3 thousand 143.Remdesivir, an antiviral drug, a novel nucleotide analog prodrug

8.Researchers from the Indian Institute of technology, Hyderabad have made potential headway in the treatment of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). ALS is a rare & debilitating neurodegenerative disorder that affects the voluntary movement of the muscles.ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

9.The Union Cabinet approved an amendment to the Banking Regulation Act to bring multi-state cooperative banks under the watch of the central bank and prevent a repeat of Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank-like crisis.There are 1,540 cooperative banks with a depositor base of 8.6cr.

10.Reserve Bank of India (RBI) extended the deadline for a one-time restructuring scheme of small business loans by another nine months to 31 December.It also mandated banks to use an external benchmark to price loans to medium-sized enterprises from 1 April.RBI was set up in 1935 under the Reserve Bank of India Act,1934.

11.Sports Authority of India & Hockey India announced the launch of the High-Performance Centres in 7 places to provide state-of-the-art facilities to Junior & Sub-Junior players and is aimed at grooming young talent in view of 2024 & 2028 Olympic Games.SAI HQ- New Delhi, Hockey India HQ- New Delhi.

12.The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry in partnership with 5 of the epic industry bodies of Central Asian countries launched the India-Central Asia Business council, as an outcome of the dialogue held in Samarkand on 2019 between them.Nations-India, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.

13.Hollywood legend & veteran actor Kirk Douglas passed away at 103 in California, US. He was prolific as a film actor, with more than 90 credits to his name - ranging over 6 decades from the 1940s to the 2000s. He is best-known for his role as Spartacus.He earned 1st Oscar nomination for 1949 boxing story-Champion.

14.Cognizant co-founder Francisco D’Souza is set to step down from the board of the company.He co-founded Cognizant in 1994 and served as the company’s CEO from January 2007 through March 2019. Vinita Bali,will join the board as an independent director.Brian Humphries, Cognizant CEO.

15.Jeff Weiner announced that his 11-year stint as CEO of the company will end on May 31 and that he will be replaced in the role by Ryan Roslansky, who is currently the vice president of products.He will join the LinkedIn board as its executive chairman.Microsoft is LinkedIn's parent company.
