ONE LINER OF THE DAY 3rd FEB 2020


1.‘Santusht’-Implementation Monitoring Cell (IMC) has been constituted in the Office of Minister of State (I/C) for Labour & Employment in January 2020. Its aim is to promote effective delivery of public services & implementation of policies of the ministry.CPGRAM portal is already functional for public grievances.

2.3rd Defence Attaches Conference held in New Delhi. Rajnath Singh announced the creation of 10 new Defence Wings so that 10 more Defence Attaches could be appointed. Govt has introduced a new scheme to promote defence exports through Defence Attaches.Funds have been allocated for export promotion to 34 countries.

3.The ninth edition of Indo-Bangladesh Joint Military Exercise SAMPRITI-IX commenced at Umroi, Meghalaya on 4 January. The main focus of this edition of the fourteen days joint exercise is on Counter-Terrorism Operations in mountainous and jungle terrain.The joint exercise will culminate on 16th February.

4.Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Minister of State RK Singh said that over 73 lakh candidates were trained under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. Skill training was based on the National Skill Qualification Framework and industry led standards.Scheme will cover 10 million youth during the period 2016 -2020.

5.World Cancer Day is observed on the 4 February every year to create awareness about cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. 2020 theme, ‘I can, we can’ acknowledges that everyone has the capacity to address the cancer burden.Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally.

6.India's junior youth claimed 14 medals-includes 6 gold- & won the overall championship trophy & the 'Best Boxer' award at the Golden Girl Championship in Sweden. The youth team secured a single gold and 4 bronze medals. The event concluded on 3 February.Prachi Dhankar won 'Best Boxer' award in the junior category.

7.Dept of Military Affairs with Chief of Defence Staff as Secretary was created to facilitate optimal utilization of resources & promote jointness. Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence comprises Army, Naval, Air & Defence Staff Headquarters.Act-2nd Schedule to GOI Allocation of Business Rules 1961.

8.CCI approved the combination between Yum Restaurants India Private Ltd & Devyani International Limited involving acquisition of certain equity shareholding & sale of certain KFC restaurants. YRIPL runs restaurants under 3 Brands-KFC, Pizza Hut & Taco Bell.DIL is a public company incorporated in India.

9.MoU was signed by CSIR-CFTRI (Central Food Technological Research Institute) with Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority to set up a Office in Guwahati, to provide technical support to the food industries in the NE region.CSIR-Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.

10.To address the need for building professionally managed & strong Science & Technology infrastructure in the country which is readily accessible to academia, start-ups, industry and R&D labs, the Dept of Science & Technology launched a scheme called SATHI.SATHI- Sophisticated Analytical & Technical Help Institutes.

11.In order to promote manufacturing of hybrid & EV, Dept of Heavy Industry formulated the scheme-FAME India (Faster Adoption & Manufacturing of Hybrid & EVs in India) commencing from 1 April 2015. Its Phase-I attained the reduction of about 147 mn Kg of CO2.Saving of about 59 mn litters of fuel is another achievement.

12.Kerala Govt has agreed to take over BHEL’s 51% stake in BHEL-EML. As per the laid down procedure in General Financial Rules & the extant guidelines, transfer of assets is being processed. An agreement was signed by GOI, Kerala Govt & Instrumentation Ltd.Instrumentation Ltd is transferring Palakkad Unit to Kerala.

13.Tourism ministry, under the Swadesh Darshan scheme is developing thematic circuits in the country in planned manner. Under the scheme 15 thematic circuits have been identified for the development. Ministry also identified 17 Iconic Sites in the country.Swadesh Darshan & PRASHAD schemes help in tourism growth.

14.To achieve the twin objectives of supporting local manufacturers & generating funds to create health infrastructure, the Budget has imposed a 5% health cess on import of medical devices. Estimates show that it would generate about Rs 2000 Cr investment.Imports last year stood at Rs 38,000 crore.

15.The Union Budget 2020-21 increased the National Calamity Contingent Duty (NCCD) on cigarettes anywhere between 212% to 388% depending on the cigarette stick sizes. The imposed NCCD duty is expected to witness price rise of 7% in the sales of cigarettes.The NCCD duty was introduced under Finance Act, 2001.

16.To boost participation of domestic industry in the clean energy sector, Union Budget 2020 proposed 20% customs duty on solar panels & EVs. Budget offered tax relief to clean energy generators. Customs duty on completely built EV buses & trucks is 25-40%.15 % tax-For New Industrialists in the renewable energy sector.

17.Amitabh Bhatt has taken over as Chief Executive Officer of Bengaluru-headquartered defence PSU, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited's Bangalore Complex. Earlier, Amitabh Bhatt was heading the Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) project in HAL as Executive Director.He served in SKF India Ltd for 15 years before joining HAL.
