1.Bureaucrat Rajiv Bansal has been appointed as the chairman & managing director(CMD) of Air India.The post became vacant after incumbent Ashwani Lohani completed his tenure. He is at present additional secretary in the ministry of petroleum and natural gas.Air India Subsidiaries: Alliance Air, Airline Allied Services.

2.UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has appointed Indian-origin Rishi Sunak as his new finance minister. He replaced Sajid Javid who resigned from the post of Chancellor of the Exchequer.He is affiliated with the British Conservative Party.He is married to the Akshata Murthy (Narayana Murthy's daughter).

3.Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) introduced a system to monitor and detect misuse of client securities by stock brokers. Under the new system, an online register will record brokers’ holdings of client securities.Dr. S. A. Dave was first chairman of SEBI.

4.The Union Cabinet approved changes in the 'Direct Tax Vivad se Vishwas Bill, 2020' with a view to increase its scope to cover litigation pending in various debt recovery tribunals (DRTs).The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha earlier this month.Cabinet meeting is chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

5.Rajendra Kumar Pachauri, the former chief of The Energy and Resources Institute, passed away at the age of 79. He played a pivotal role in growing this institution, and making it a premier global organisation in the sustainability space.

6.ICAI will set up a Sustainability Accounting Standards Board to help companies in achieving sustainable development goals.With the proposed standards, there would be disclosure requirements for companies in terms sustainable development goals of the UN.ICAI is Chartered accountants' apex body.

7.Katsuya Nomura, a mainstay of the baseball world in postwar Japan who was one of the country’s greatest catchers before going on to a long second career as a manager. He was 84.In his 26 years as a player and a player-manager, Nomura hit 657 home runs.Abner Doubleday invented Baseball game.

8.The Indian men's hockey team captain Manpreet Singh was named Player of the Year for 2019 by the International Hockey Federation. He became the first Indian to win the accolade since the awards were introduced in 1999.Belgium's Arthur van Dorren came second in the list.

9.15th Finance Commission constituted a 5 member group on Defence & Internal Security.The panel will examine whether a separate mechanism for funding of defence & internal security ought to be set up, & if so, how such a mechanism could be operationalized.The chairman of the commission N.K. Singh will head the group.

10.In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi appointed Debasish Panda as the secretary of finance ministry’s department of financial services.The current Finance Minister of India is Nirmala Sitharaman.

11.In the 43rd Governing Council meeting of the IFAD held at Rome, Italy it announced that climate change would push 100 million people into the abyss of poverty by 2030. Close to half of these would be due to climate change’s impacts on agriculture.IFAD- International Fund for Agricultural Development.

12.Indian and British armies began the fifth edition of their joint exercise, 'Ajeya Warrior' on, 13 February in UK. The exercise is aimed at conducting training of troops in counterinsurgency and counter-terrorist operations in urban & semi-urban areas.Over 120 soldiers each from the 2 armies are participating.
