ONE LINER OF THE DAY 13th FEB 2020


1.World Radio day is observed every year on February 13, to raise greater awareness among the public and the media of the importance of radio. It is also meant to encourage decision makers to establish and provide access to information through radio.In year 2013, February 13 was proclaimed as World Radio Day.

2.Union Cabinet has approved the Pesticide Management Bill 2020.The legislation will promote organic pesticides in the country. It has also given in-principle approval for capital infusion of 2,500 crore rupees in 3 Public Sector General Insurance Companies.3 Companies are Oriental, National & United India Insurance.

3.Portugal President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa arrived in India on 13 February on a 4-day visit. The 2 countries have active & growing cooperation in the field of economy & business, science & culture, & they share convergences on international Issues.Portugal Capital-Lisbon, Currency-Euro, PM-Antonio Costa.

4.The government has amended the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 to make arbitration process user friendly and cost effective. This will also ensure speedy disposal and neutrality of arbitrators.The Amendment Act was effective from 30.08.2019.Arbitration Council of India (ACI) ,was established in 1965.

5.The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) elected Atul Gupta as the President for the term 2020-21. Nihar Jambusaria is elected as the Vice President of the Institute. Tenure of the current President CA Prafulla P. Chhajed expired this Feb.ICAI was established on 1 July 1949.

6.The Odisha government constituted State Commission for Backward Classes under the chairmanship of former High Court judge Raghunath Biswal. IAS officer Veer Vikram Yadav has been nominated as member secretary of the Commission.Naveen Patnaik, Odisha CM; Ganeshi Lal Governor.

7.According to government data ,Retail inflation accelerated to 7.59 percent in January, Industrial output contracted 0.3 percent in December from a year earlier.The sharp spike in food inflation has led January CPI to breach a six-year high of 7.59 percent.Both IIP and CPI are released on the 12th of every month.

8.Government launched a School Health Programme under Ayushman Bharat-Health & Wellness Centres that will teach skills ranging from emotional wellbeing, mental health, interpersonal relationships to values and maintaining healthy lifestyle.Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare.

9.Tata Trusts named Tata group veteran Srinath Narasimhan as their first chief executive. Narasimhan, currently managing director of Tata Teleservices Ltd and Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd, will take over his new assignment from 1 April.Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT) came into being in 1919.

10.Union Cabinet gave its approval for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) b/w India and Iceland in the field of sustainable fisheries development.There is a provision for training fisheries professionals from key institutions in various management aspects.Iceland capital- Reykjavik; Currency Icelandic krona.

11.Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department under Odisha government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the HDFC Bank to provide smart banking solutions to Startups in the state.HDFC Bank CEO: Aditya Puri.

12.Former IndianOil and BPCL Chairman Sarthak Behuria has joined Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) as senior advisor. He will provide strategic direction and leadership to the new Reliance and BP joint venture focused on fuel retail business.Reliance Industries Limited CEO: Mukesh Ambani

13.India celebrated Sarojini Naidu’s birthday as National Women’s Day of India every year on February 13. Sarojini Naidu was India’s first women governor and also famous as ‘Bharat Kokila’. She was born on February 13, 1879.Every year, International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8 March.

14.Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries not covered under various packages of the insurance programme and requiring high-cost treatment will be able to get financial assistance of up to ₹15 lakh under the Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN) scheme.Ayushman Bharat Yojana,Launched: 25 September 2018.

15.Popular fashion designer Wendell Rodricks has passed away at the age of 59.He was a Padma Shri awardee and a published writer with books such as "Moda Goa - History and Style", his memoir "The Green Room" and "Poskem: Goans in the Shadows".Charles Frederick Worth, first fashion designer of the world.

16.The Emirates Cricket Board has appointed former Indian cricketer Robin Singh as the new director of cricket.His appointment was announced after Emirates Cricket Board fired head coach Dougie Brown. He has been associated with Mumbai Indians.He has also coached USA and Hong Kong.
