ONE LINER OF THE DAY 20th SEP 2019


1.Government has appointed Air Marshal RKS Bhadauria as the new chief of Indian Air Force to serve for a 3-year term or till the age of 62. He is the current Vice-chief of Air Staff & takes over the post from his predecessor BS Dhanoa.He was appointed honorary Aide De Campe to President of India.

2.Vinesh Phogat defeated 2-time world bronze medalist Maria Prevolaraki of Greece by fall in the bronze medal bout of 53 kg freestyle event. She is only the fourth Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the tournament held in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.She became 1st wrestler under Olympic quota for Tokyo 2020.

3.Moti Bagh, a documentary film directed by Nirmal Chander Dandriyal, based on the struggle of a farmer in a remote Himalayan village, has been nominated for the Oscars, announced by Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat.92nd Academy Awards 2020 to be held in LA, California.

4.Ministry of Skill Development has signed an agreement with IBM where the latter will carry out a nationwide Train-the-Trainer in Basic Artificial Intelligence Skills. IBM aims to train 10K faculty members from ITIs across the country over a period of 1 yr.Minister of SD&E: Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey.

5.Govt slashed effective corporate tax to 25.17% for domestic companies subject to the condition that they will not avail any other incentive or exemptions. In effect, the corporate tax will be 22% for domestic companies if they do not avail any concession.Tax for new manufacturing companies (after Oct 1) to be 17.01%.

6.National Geoscience Awards 2018 for outstanding contributions across 10 fields including geosciences, mining and allied areas were presented to 22 scientists from across the country by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines, Pralhad Joshi.National Mineral Policy 2019 aims 200% mineral growth in 7 yrs.

7.PMMVY scheme crossed 1 crore beneficiaries, under which Pregnant Women & Lactating Mothers receive a cash benefit of Rs. 5,000 in 3 installments on fulfilling the conditionality. Total amount disbursed under the scheme has crossed Rs. 4,000 crores.Minister of Women & Child Development: Smriti Irani.

8.Ministry of Labour and Employment has notified 8.65% rate of interest on EPF deposits for its over 6 crore subscribers. EPFO has been settling EPF withdrawal claims at 8.55% interest rate, approved for 2017-18.Central Provident Fund Commissioner: S Barthwal.

9.FM announced that all scheduled banks will hold gatherings in a total of 400 districts, where customers can come & take any type of loan they want from the banks & NBFCs partnering with them. No MSME stressed loan to be classified as NPA until March 2020.Minister of State for Finance: Anurag Thakur.

10.Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd delivered 2nd Scorpene submarine ‘KHANDERI’ to Indian Navy at an event held in Mumbai. It is named after the wide snouted Saw fish, a deadly sea predator of the Indian Ocean. 1st Khanderi was commissioned into Navy in 1968.KARANJ & VELA are scorpenes under construction currently
