ONE LINER OF THE DAY 8th APRIL 2019


1.Objective is to spread awareness about equal health care facilities all over the world and to dispel all the myths that are there regarding health related matters. Theme for 2019 is Universal Health Coverage.World Health Organisation founded on 7 April 1948.

2.Chinese badminton ace Lin Dan clinched the Malaysia Open 2019 title in Kuala Lumpur after an electric performance beating his fellow countryman Chen Long in the finals. It is Lin's first win in the year 2019.Lin Dan also won Malaysian Open 2017 title.

3.Pakistan recently released 100 Indian fishermen as a “goodwill gesture”, who were arrested for trespassing into the country’s territorial waters and violating international maritime limits and another 200 are set to be released by the end of this month.Pakistan Prime minister: Imran Khan; President: Arif Alvi.

4.Indian Army team led Himalayan Heights Expedition was recently flagged off for covering the route of Leh to Karkoram Pass. The expedition would see the team of 14 bikers covering 1000 kms over 11 days facing extreme climate of the region.Kargil Vijay Diwas: 29 July.

5.Amidst OPEC's ongoing supply cuts and U.S. sanctions against Iran and Venezuela, Oil prices rose to their highest level since November 2018. OPEC has pledged to withhold around 1.2 million barrels per day (bpd) of supply this year.OPEC HQs: Vienna, Austria; Founded: 1960, Baghdad, Iraq.

6.According to Morgan Stanley, Indian markets is poised to witness a boom in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the coming decade with an estimated jump of 12 times from the current level to $200 billion by 2029.In past 4 years, ETF assets have risen from $240 mn to $15 bn.

7.Dr Gyanaditya Shakya was recently honoured with the Presidential Award of Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman 2019 with prize money of 1 lakh by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu for his outstanding contribution in the field of Pali language and literature.Since 2002, the prize is for selected young scholars (30-45 yrs).

8.Markets regulator SEBI has approved an ‘Airport’ specific fund- ‘Taking Off to The Future Airport Fund’ to raise a capital of up to Rs 10,000 crore ($1.5 billion) ‘Category II Alternative Investment Fund’ (AIF).AAI Headquarters: New Delhi; Founded: 1995.

9.In order to secure greater powers to tax sale of Indian company shares by the Dutch companies, India is now negotiating with the Netherlands to amend the bilateral tax treaty especially on matters of capital gains taxation.Netherlands Capital: Amsterdam; Currency: Euro, USD.

10.Nobel Prize-winning biologist Sydney Brenner who helped decipher the genetic code and published an outstanding research on roundworms & human disease research recently passed away at the age of 92.He won the Nobel Prize in 2002 (Medicine)
