ONE LINER OF THE DAY 6th JANUARY 2018


1.The 27th New Delhi ‘World Book Fair’ was inaugurated in New Delhi on 5 January 2019.The theme of 2019 ‘World Book Fair’ is ‘Readers with Special Needs’.All India Radio (AIR) is the radio partner for the fair.To mark Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, there will be a special book exhibition of books on and by Mahatma Gandhi.

2.The Lok Sabha passed the Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2018.The Bill seeks to improve ease of doing business, reduce the burden on the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and prescribe strong action against non-compliant companies.The Companies (Amendment), Bill, 2018 replaces the Ordinance promulgated in November 2018.

3.S. Vijay Kumar was presented the ‘Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism’ Award for Investigative Reporting (Print category) on 4 January 2019.He is Senior Deputy Editor with ‘The Hindu’.The award has been instituted by the Ramnath Goenka Memorial Foundation.

4.The RBI decided to limit the liability of customers in case of unauthorised electronic payment transactions in Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) issued by non-banks.If the fraud is reported between three and seven days, customer liability will amount to the transaction value or Rs. 10,000.For over seven days, the liability of the customer will be according to the policy of the PPI issue.

5.The Andhra Pradesh government bagged the Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) award for speedy execution of Polavaram multipurpose project.It received the award in the category of ‘Best Implementation of Water Resources Project’ for better planning, implementation, and monitoring.Polavaram project multipurpose project on the Godavari river.

6.Andhra Pradesh topped the Asia Competitiveness Institute’s (ACI) 2018 ‘Ease of Doing Business’ Index.Maharashtra and Delhi came in 2nd and 3rd place.The index is based upon three parameters called ‘ABC’- Attractiveness to Investors, Business Friendliness and Competitiveness Policies.

7.Wahengbam Lamnganba Singh from Manipur was selected by the Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW) for receiving National Bravery Award.He will be receiving the award from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 23, 2019.He saved his cousin brother from drowning in a pond on 16 May 2018.The National Bravery Awards are given on every Republic Day.

8.The 6th ‘Women of India Organic Festival’ will be held from 12 to 14 January 2019 in Chandigarh.The festival will be organised by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.The aim of the festival is to celebrate and promote women farmers and entrepreneurs in the organic sector from the remotest parts of India.

9.According to the government of India, all the 640 districts of the country have been covered under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme (BBBP).The scheme is aimed at addressing the declining Child Sex Ratio and enabling girl child education.The scheme is implemented by the Ministries of Women and Child Development, Health & Family Welfare, and Human Resource Development.

10.The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) declared 6 monuments of National Importance in 2018.The High Court Building in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and two Mughal-era monuments in Agra — Haveli of Agha Khan and Hathi Khana.The Neemrana Baori in Rajasthan, the Group of Temples at Ranipur Jharail in Odisha, and the Vishnu Temple in Kotali in Uttarakhand.
