ONE LINER OF THE DAY 10th DECEMBER 2018


1.The 2nd edition of ‘Khelo India Youth Games’ will be held in Pune in January 2019.Students from colleges and Universities will also be allowed to compete in the games.Tennis and table tennis will also be the part of 2019 edition of games.The 1st edition of Khelo India games was held in Delhi in January 2018.The Khelo India games is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.

2.The first International Conference on ‘Sustainable Water Management’ is being organised in Mohali from 10 to 11 December 2018.The conference is being organised by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).The aim of the Conference is to promote sustainable policies for water management and to create awareness of water-related problems.

3.Mexico’s Vanessa Ponce de Leon won the coveted ‘Miss World 2018’ crown on 8 December 2018.She is a volunteer for ‘Migrantes en el Camino’ and is on the board of directors of a rehab centre for girls.Thailand’s Nicolene Pichapa Limsnukan was declared the runner-up.Miss Belarus Maria Vasilevich, Miss Jamaica Kadijah Robinson, and Miss Uganda Quiin Abenakyo were also among the final five.

4.Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December.On this day, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.This year, Human Rights Day marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.The theme for 2018 is ‘Stand up for the human rights’.

5.Conservationist Imran Siddiqui has been honoured with ‘Sanctuary Wildlife Service Award 2018’ on 8 December 2018.He is the Assistant Director for Conservation Science at Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS)-India that monitors tigers.The Sanctuary Wildlife Awards are organised annually by the Sanctuary Nature Foundation.

6.Goa’s Prathamesh Maulingkar has become the first Asian/Indian to win ‘Mister Supranational 2018’ title on 9 December 2018.Mister Supranational Poland was adjudged first runner-up and Mister Supranational Brazil was adjudged the second runner-up.The third edition of ‘Mister Supranational 2018’ pageant took place in Poland.

7.Kannur International Airport in Kerala was inaugurated on 9 December 2018.The Kannur airport has been built on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.With the commissioning of the Kannur airport, Kerala has become the first in the country to have four international airports.The other three international airports in Kerala are in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode.

8.India is set to get its first underwater museum off the Puducherry coast.INS Cuddalore, a minesweeper decommissioned in March 2018, will be turned into a museum.The minesweeper will be deployed in the seabed 7 km off Puducherry coast.The vessel will be a popular destination for scuba diving and snorkelling.This will also improve marine biodiversity and the fishing industry.

9.The board of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) approved a $400-million loan for a water sanitation project in Andhra Pradesh.This project will increase access to safe drinking water and support the Government of Andhra Pradesh in addressing water supply and sanitation.The project will also reduce health risks and health expenditures for women in Andhra Pradesh.

10.The book titled ‘Of Counsel: The Challenges of the Modi-Jaitley Economy’ was launched in Mumbai on 7 December 2018.The author of the book is Arvind Subramanian.Arvind Subramanian is an Indian economist and the former Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India.The book talks about the journey of Arvind Subramanian as the CEA from 2014 to 2018.
