1.Election commission issued an advisory prohibiting ‘None Of The Above’ (NOTA) option from the Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections.The EC issued an advisory regarding the same to Chief Electoral Officer of all states and Union Territories.Supreme Court has directed that NOTA option should not be applied for elections to Council of State.
2.Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced the launch of ‘Yuva Nestam Scheme’ on October 2, 2018.Under the scheme, unemployment allowance of Rs 1000 would be given to unemployed youth of the state.The scheme’s major motive is to empower the youth by providing skill development, self-employment opportunities.
3.To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of 'Swachhata Hi Seva Movement'.The mission, which also celebrates the fourth anniversary of the Swaccha Bharat Mission will take place across the length and breadth of the country and will continue till Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary on October 2.
4.The Union cabinet approved a proposal for the complete electrification of Indian Railways by 2021-22, reducing dependence on imported fossil fuel and saving revenue for the national carrier.The move will cost the government Rs12,134 crore. The announcement was made by the Railways Minister, Mr Piyush Goyal.
5.As per a UN report on the ‘state of food security and nutrition in the world’, the number of undernourished globally increased to 821 million in 2017, which means that one in every nine people, does not have enough to eat.It was published by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Food Programme (WFP), UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The increase is mostly due to three drivers across the world: 1. the intensification of conflict, 2. an economic downturn, and 3. the effects of climate change.
6.After launching the world's largest mobile phone-manufacturing factory in Noida in July 2018, Samsung has now opened its biggest experience centre in Bengaluru, Karnataka.Opera House, the 33,000 sq ft iconic building in the city’s central business district, has been given a facelift to showcase Samsung's mobile devices and other consumer electronic products.
