ONE LINER OF THE DAY 4th May 2018.


1.The 4th Regional Conference of AIIB on Futuristic, Resilient and Digital Infrastructure was organised in Bengaluru on May 3.It was organised by the Ministry of Finance, Confederation of Indian Industry, and Research and Information System for Developing Countries.The 2-day Conference is a lead-up to the 3rd Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

2.Pension fund regulator PFRDA has said National Pension System (NPS) subscribers will now have the option to partially withdraw funds.Funds can be used for setting up new business or pursuing higher education.NPS and Atal Pension Yojana, both regulated by the PFRDA, currently have a cumulative subscriber base of over 2.13 crore with total asset under management of over Rs 2.38 lakh crore.

3.The Reserve Bank asked all listed companies to provide information on Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI) investments to depositories before May 15.Currently, the RBI receives data on the investment made by FPIs and Non-Resident Indians on Stock Exchanges from banks.Depositories have to provide the necessary infrastructure and systems for operationalising the monitoring mechanism.

4.An Indian delegation headed by Shri Subhash Chandra Garg, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance is currently on a tour to Manila to attend the 51st Annual Meeting of Asian Development Bank.

5.India is organising a five-day cultural festival in Egypt to commemorate the 157th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. An exhibition on the paintings of Tagore titled ‘Rabindranath Tagore: Rhythm in Colours’ will be held in Giza.The festival is being organised by the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture, the cultural wing of the Indian Embassy in Cairo. 

6.According to the latest report of the World Bank, India is doing “extremely well” on electrification with nearly 85% of the country’s population having access to electricity.Between 2010 and 2016, India providing electricity to 30 million people each year, more than any other country.

7.The Nobel Prize in Literature, the world’s most prestigious accolade for writing, will not be awarded this year, for the first time since 1949 in the wake of a sexual and financial misconduct scandal.The Swedish Academy, that decides the Nobel Prize for Literature, will now announce the 2018 winner along with the 2019 winner next year.

8.External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will be chairing an interactive session on Act East Policy in New Delhi.Chief Ministers of 8 North Eastern states – Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Sikkim, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura have been invited to attend this meeting.They will be accompanied by senior officials from the States who deal with policy issues related to the subject.

9.Former chief economic adviser Ashok Lahiri has been appointed as full-time member of the 15th Finance Commission, according to an order issued by the Personnel Ministry.

10.Ravinder Sharma, fondly called Guruji, the founder of Adilabad's Kala Ashram died at his house at the age of 65 years.
