ONE LINER OF THE DAY 2nd May 2018.


1.Legendary singer Asha Bhosle was honoured with 26th PC Chandra Puraskaar for her contribution in the field of Indian music.Sharmila Tagore was the Chief Guest at the event who also presented the prestigious award to Asha Bhosle.

2.Minister of Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu, attended India- South Africa business summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Minister highlighted the historical relations between India and Swaziland, Botswana and Lesotho and pledged to take the economic partnership forward.

3.Indian pugilist Neeraj Goyat has been conferred with the WBC Asia Boxer of the Year Award. Neeraj is the current WBC Asia champion in welter weight category.

4.The draft of National Telecom Policy (NTP) 2018 aka National Digital Communications Policy 2018 has been uploaded for public consultations on the Department of Telecom’s (DoT).One of the key strategies in the draft talks of recognising spectrum as a key natural resource for public benefit.The draft proposes one Gbps connectivity to all Gram Panchayats by 2020 and 10 Gbps by 2022.

5.In a move aimed at empowering mobile consumers, the Telecom Commission cleared a proposal for creation of an Ombudsman under the sector regulator to resolve subscriber complaints.As per the decision of Telecom Commission, the Ombudsman will be created by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).The TRAI will be free to set up as many Ombudsman as per requirement.

6.The bilateral trade between India and China through Nathu La border has resumed. The announcement in this regard was made by the General Secretary of the Indo-China Border Traders’ Welfare Association, Tenzing Tsepel.

7.In an outreach to farmers, the Government is organising ‘Kisan Kalyan Karyashala’ at the block level across the country on 2nd May.The workshops will be part of the ongoing ‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’.Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’ is a rural-centric campaign that had started on April 14, the birth anniversary of Dalit icon B R Ambedkar, and will end on May 5.

8.Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes has won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2018 in Baku during which both Red Bulls sensationally collided with each other.

9.Former IAS Officer Subhash Chandra Khuntia was appointed as the new Chairman of Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India (IRDAI) for three-years.Khuntia will succeed T S Vijayan, who completed his five-year term in February.

10.The ‘Vibrant North East 2018’, an event in which people would be made aware of central government’s schemes and programmes, will be held in Guwahati from May 3.The main purpose of the event is to disseminate information about the schemes, grants and projects of the Central government.
