ONE LINER OF THE DAY 7th April 2018.


1.Reserve Bank of India has decided to set up Data Sciences Lab to improve its forecasting, surveillance and early warning detection abilities which will aid policy formulation.The lab will comprise experts and budding analysts, who are trained in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, Economics, Econometrics and Finance.The unit will become operational by December 2018.

2.The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 5th April kept the repo rate and reverse repo rate unchanged at 6 percent and 5.75 percent respectively.The real Gross Domestic Product growth in FY19 is seen at 7.4 percent as against 6.6 percent in FY18.The RBI revised CPI inflation projection for 2018-19 to 4.7-5.1% in the first half of the financial year and 4.4% in the second half.

3.The General Assembly of the United Nations decided to proclaim on 6 April as “International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.”This date commemorates the inauguration, in 1896, of the first Olympic games of the modern era, in Athens (Greece).

4.Subrata Bhattacharjee has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Serbia.Subrata Bhattacharjee is a 1989 batch Indian Foreign Service officer.He is currently the Joint Secretary in Ministry of External Affairs.

5.India will host the 16th International Energy Forum (IEF) Ministerial Meeting from 10-12th April 2018 in New Delhi.The biennial IEF Ministerial Meetings are the world’s largest gathering of Energy Ministers who engage in a dialogue on global energy issues.The IEF is an inter-governmental arrangement set up in 1991, based in Riyadh.There are 72 member countries of IEF, including India.

6.Chhattisgarh bagged the ‘State of the Year’ Award under the ‘business leader’ category as part of the India Business Leadership for the remarkable increase in business and services activities in various sectors.The plunge witnessed is said to be the result of various decisions taken on the policy in the field of business by the Chhattisgarh Government in the past few years and its effective implementation.

7.In a bid to use technology for farmers’ benefit, the Tamil Nadu Government has come out with a bi-lingual mobile application ‘Uzhavan’ (farmer) that will allow ryots to have access to nine types of services, including details about their crop insurance.The app can be used by farmers to get information on farm subsidies, book farm equipment and related infrastructure and get details on their crop insurance, besides receiving weather forecast for the next four days.

8.The Indian government has signed a $80 million (Rs 512 crore) loan agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to help improving skills of youth and modernising institutes.This project of estimated cost of $100 million (Rs 640 crore) is expected to be completed by 2022 and the state will get 90 per cent of the loan component as grant from the Central government.

9.Uttarakhand’s second Mega Food Park- Himalayan Mega Food Park Private Ltd inaugurated at Mahuakhera Ganj in Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar district. It was inaugurated by Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal. The first Mega Food Park in the state is located at Haridwar.

10.The World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on 7 April, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as other related organisations.The theme of the World Health Day in 2018 is “Universal health coverage: everyone, everywhere”.
