ONE LINER OF THE DAY 15th March 2018.


1.The Department of Consumer Affairs is celebrating the World Consumer Rights Day this year with the theme “Making Digital Marketplaces Fairer” in New Delhi on 15th March 2018.World Consumer Rights Day is an annual international event that signifies celebration and solidarity in the international consumer movement.The event also gives a chance to protest against the market abuses.

2.Indian filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda’s “Halkaa”, which had its world premiere at the 21st edition of Film Pour Enfants de Montreal Film (FIFEM), has bagged the Grand Prix de Montreal.“Halkaa” was selected among seven international children’s films from different countries in the official competition of the festival.

3.With the passage of the Finance Bill and the Appropriation Bill, the budget exercise is complete in the lower house.A Finance Bill is presented in Parliament along with the Annual Financial Statement in lieu of fulfilling the requirement of Article 110 (1)(a) of the Constitution.The Finance Bill also contains other provisions related to the Budget can be classified as a Money Bill.

4.Renewable solution provider Suzlon Group announced the installation and commissioning of its new product “S128” claiming it to be the largest wind turbine generator in India.The first prototype of S128 has been commissioned at the Sanganeri site in Tamil Nadu.This has the country’s largest single rotor blade measuring 63 metres and reduced levelised cost of energy.

5.Nepal’s incumbent President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has been elected for a second term, extending the tenure of the Himalayan country’s first female head of state for another five years.With this President Bhandari is the first President of federal Nepal.She is also the first Nepali woman to be elected as the country’s president twice.

6.Technology giant Google made ‘searching for Indian addresses’ on Google Maps a tad bit simpler, by announcing Plus Codes, a simple location-based digital addressing system. Besides, the company also added Voice Navigation in six additional Indian languages, to its system.This system is based on dividing the geographical surface of the Earth into tiny ’tiled areas’, attributing a unique code to each of them. This code simply comprises a ‘six-character + City’ format that can be generated, shared and searched by anyone; all that is needed is Google Maps on a smartphone.

7.The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has scrapped the issuance of Letters of Undertaking (LOUs) and Letters of Comfort (LOCs) for trade credit for imports with immediate effect.Banks will continue to issue guarantees and letter of credit for trade purposes which are the international norm.A letter of credit is secure because it has the details of the expiry date and the material purchase.

8.For the better management of fly ash waste from thermal power plants across country, Government has reduced the GST rates on fly ash and its products to 5%. Further, to facilitate 100% ash utilization by all coal based thermal power plants, a web portal for monitoring of fly ash generation and utilization data of Thermal Power Plants and a mobile based application titled “ASHTRACK” has been launched that will help to establish a link between fly ash users and power plants executives for obtaining fly ash for its use in various areas.

9.The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) celebrated its 33rd Inception Day on 11th March, 2018 and released “Citizen Services” Mobile App.The Mobile App template is a bouquet of 9 police related services, has been launched for the citizens. These services will provide smooth interface between Citizens and Police.

10.India has announced a new Line of Credit of USD 100 million for defense procurement by Mauritius as the two sides signed many agreements on the second day of President Ram Nath Kovind’s visit. President Kovind also inaugurated the World Hindi Secretariat building in Mauritius.
