She concluded her remarks eight hours later, making it the longest speech on record in the chamber.Pelosi’s lengthy intervention was a dramatic attempt to persuade Republicans to allow a vote on immigration legislation that would protect Dreamers, young undocumented migrants brought to the US as children.
3.The Nobel Prize is a set of annual international awards bestowed in several categories by Swedish and Norwegian institutions in recognition of academic, cultural, or scientific advances.The will of the Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel established the prizes in 1895.The prizes in Chemistry, Literature, Peace, Physics and Physiology or Medicine were first awarded in 1901.
4.Credit default swaps (CDS) are a type of insurance against default risk by a particular company. The company is called the reference entity and the default is called credit event. It is a contract between two parties, called protection buyer and protection seller. Under the contract, the protection buyer is compensated for any loss emanating from a credit event in a reference instrument. In return, the protection buyer makes periodic payments to the protection seller.
In the event of a default, the buyer receives the face value of the bond or loan from the protection seller. From the seller's perspective, CDS provides a source of easy money if there is no credit event. CDS was introduced by JP Morgan.
5.The ‘Pelican Bird Festival-2018’ was held for first in Atapaka Bird Sanctuary on at Kolleru lake in Andhra Pradesh. It was jointly organised by Andhra.It was jointly organised by Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority (APTA) and Krishna district administration.During winter season, thousands of pelicans, painted storks and other birds migrate to Kolleru lake. During their stay they roost, breed and later fly away with their off springs. Recently, Atapaka Bird Sanctuary was recognised as one of the largest pelicanry in the world
6.The Merlin Award is given to magicians in recognition of their contributions to the performance and creation of magic around the world. While sometimes called the Academy Awards of magic, the Merlin Award lacks much of the oversight that enhance the credibility of awards in other industries.The award was created by Tony Hassini and his International Magicians Society and is given out to invited guests at triennial banquets as well as in person by Hassini himself with greater frequency.
7.The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy under its scheme “Development of Solar Cities” has approved/sanctioned 60 Cities including 13 Pilot and 5 Model Cities up to 12th Five-year Plan period. In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha ,Minister of State (IC) for Power & New and Renewable Energy, Shri R K Singh informed that the master plans of 49 Solar Cities have been prepared.
8.Mahamasthakabhisheka, the head anointing ceremony is performed once in 12 years to the 57 feet tall monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali at Shravanabelagola. The event is being be held under the leadership of His Holiness Swasti Sri Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji of Shravanabelagola from 17th-25th February 2018.
9.The Sundarbans National Park is a National Park, Tiger Reserve, and a Biosphere Reserve in West Bengal, India. It is part of the Sundarbans on the Ganges Delta, and adjacent to the Sundarban Reserve Forest in Bangladesh.
10.World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on 2 February.The Standing Committee of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands approved "Wetlands for a Sustainable Urban Future" as the theme for World Wetlands Day in 2018.This day marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
