ONE LINER OF THE DAY 1st FEB 2018.


1.The Centre has sanctioned Rs 1,500 crore for three years to promote organic farming in Uttarakhand. This is in keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of developing Uttarakhand as an organic state which he spelt out during his visit to Kedarnath last year.

2.A hill on Mars is named after Kalpana.NASA named seven hills on planet Mars after the seven crew members, including India-born astronaut Kalpana Chawla, of the Space Shuttle Columbia who lost their lives while returning from their mission.The crew died when the space shuttle disintegrated on re-entering Earth’s atmosphere on February 1, 2003.The 16-day mission was dedicated to research in physical, life and space sciences.

3.US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley paid a visit to the Indian Embassy in Washington and met Indian Ambassador Navtej Sarna.  The Indian-American diplomat said, the India-US relations should grow stronger and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump is a good combination to achieve this.

4.Sammakka Saralamma, popularly known as Medaram Jatara will be  held from January 31 to February 3, 2018 at Medaram village in Tadvai mandal under Bhupalpally district. Bhupalpally was formerly in Warangal before re-organisations of districts in Telangana.One of the biggest tribal fairs in the country, Medaram is organised once in every two years. The fair draws devotees from far-off places like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhatisgarh, Odisha and a few parts of Karnataka too.

5.Shabnam Asthana has been awarded the ‘Times Power Women of the Year 2017’- Pune for Global PR. These awards were initiated to celebrate the victories of women who have been a great source of inspiration.

6.Dhamapur Lake, is an earth-fill dam on Malvan River. It is one of the biggest lake of Sindhudurg district in the state of Maharashtra in India.The lake receives water throughout the year and remains full throughout the year.

7.Indian Navy launched 'INS Karanj', the third of the six indigenous Scorpene-class submarines. The submarine, equipped with superior stealth features and precision-guided weapons built at Mumbai's Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of the Naval Staff, was the chief guest on the occasion. The submarine has an overall length of 67.5 meters and a height of about 12.3 meters.

8.₹2,000 cr fund for agriculture market.Arun Jaitely said that this year’s Budget will focus on strengthening agriculture and the rural economy.The Finance Minister says that APMCs will be linked with ENAM. The government will develop 22,000 Gramin agricultural markets.Minimum Support Price shall be increased by 1.5 times. Operation Green will be launched for agriculture and the Minister allocates ₹500 crore for this.

9.Gose Khurd Dam,  is an earthfill dam on the Wainganga River near Pauni in Bhandara district in state of Maharashtra in India.

10.8 cr women to get free LPG connectionsWhile presenting the Union Budget 2018 in Parliament, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced that eight crore poor women will be provided with free LPG connections under the Ujjwala scheme.The Minister added that the Saubhagya scheme will provide power to four crore families and that the government will spend ₹16,000 crore on this scheme.
