ONE LINER OF THE DAY 11th FEB 2018.


1.The Minister of State (IC) for Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, MoS PMO, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy and Space Dr. Jitendra Singh has inaugurate the two-day International conference on Unani Medicine on 10th February, 2018 at New Delhi.This year is special for Unani fraternity as it is the 150th Birth Anniversary of  Hakim Ajmal Khan.The theme of the conference is Integration of Unani System of Medicine in main stream healthcare.

2.The opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games 2018 saw a record-setting performance of 1,218 drones (unmanned aerial vehicles), flying in sync to create huge formations of various Olympic sports and the iconic Olympic rings. This record was set by Intel. The drones set a world record for the 'most unmanned aerial vehicles airborne simultaneously,' which was previously held by 500 drones during a 2016 performance in Germany.  

3.IndusInd Bank launched its new Sonic Identity, which is essentially a musical logo called 'MOGO', as part of its branding initiatives.The objective for associating to a sonic identity is building the Bank's brand imagery with the strategic use of music and sound for brand experiences and audience connection.

4.The Ministry of Women and Child Development is considering to establish National Women Entrepreneurship Council (NWEC). NWEC will promote entrepreneurship as it would be the umbrella organization for socio-economic gender parity, financial inclusion and economic empowerment of women in India. This information was given by Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Dr. Virendra Kumar in reply to a question in Lok Sabha.

5.US President Donald Trump signed a spending bill into law, ending the nine-hour government shutdown. This came after the US Congress voted 240-186 in favour of the bill. The nearly $300-billion bill would set the spending limit for defence and non-defence agencies, including health and infrastructure, for the next two years.

6.The Muthoot Group has roped in Amitabh Bachchan as brand ambassador to represent them in their national campaigns.The Muthoot Group is known for its uncompromising values and trust earned over 131 years of excellence in business.

7.The doyen of Odia literature Chandrasekhar Rath (89-year) passed away in Bhubaneswar.Rath was conferred with several awards, including Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award and Atibadi Jagannath Das Samman for his contribution in the field of literature.

8.Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area in Champhai district in eastern Mizoram, northeast India. It is an alpine forest and contains the second highest peak in Mizoram. It is specially a conservation interest on rare species of birds.

9.Reliance Industries (RIL) said it has been awarded the Golden Peacock Award 2017 for corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The award was a recognition of the work done by its CSR arm Reliance Foundation under Founder and Chairman Nita Ambani.Golden Peacock Awards, instituted by the Institute Of Directors (IOD) in 1991 in India, are regarded as a benchmark of Corporate Excellence.

10.State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest bank, posted a quarterly loss for the first time in nearly 19 years - of Rs 24.16 billion in the December quarter of 2017-18 - owing to a sizeable increase in provisioning for bad loans. This came after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) asked the lender to reclassify some corporate loans as non-performing assets (NPAs). The bank had reported a standalone profit of Rs. 2,610 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal. SBI is planning to raise about Rs 200 billion in the next financial year (2018-19) to support credit growth.
