ONE LINER OF THE DAY 16th JAN 2018.


1.The union sports ministry’s ambitious programme, ‘Khelo India’ - an initiative to scout for talent at the grassroots and provide it substantial long-term scholarship – will be launched on January 31.In the run-up to the launch, Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore unveiled the mascots (Vijay the tiger and Jaya the black buck) and launched the anthem “Aur khelna chahte hain hum…Khel mein hi masti hai….khel se abaad honge hum”.

2.Gangrel Dam, also known as the R.S. Sagar Dam, is located in ChhattisgarhIndia. It is built across the Mahanadi River. It is located in Dhamtari district,about 15 km from dhamtari and about 90 km from Raipur. It is the longest dam in Chhattisgarh.

3.The state government  announced an assistance scheme for artists working for popularising and spreading art and culture of Odisha. The scheme named as the Mukhya Mantri Kalakar Sahayata Yojana (MMKSJ) will provide 50,000 artists from across the state a monthly assistance of Rs 1,200.

4.The Raisina Dialogue is a multilateral conference held annually in New Delhi. Since its inception in 2016, the conference has emerged as India’s flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-economics. The conference is hosted by the Observer Research Foundation, an independent think tank, in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs of India.The conference is structured as a multi-stakeholder, cross-sectoral discussion, involving a variety of global policymakers including heads of state, cabinet ministers and local government officials. In addition, The Dialogue also welcomes major private sector executives, as well as members of the media and academia.The name “Raisina Dialogue” comes from Raisina Hill, an elevation in New Delhi that is home to the Government of India, as well as the Presidential Palace of India, Rashtrapati Bhavan.

5.President Trump has been awarded a Medal of Bravery from Afghan leaders in the Logar Province for the hard line he is taking with Pakistan.Trump announced that the U.S. would withhold up to $2 billion in security aid for Pakistan to punish the country for harboring terrorists. 

6.Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Rs 43,129 crore refinery project in Barmer and said it will change the economic landscape of Rajasthan.The refinery, a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Rajasthan government, will have the capacity to refine 90 lakh crude oil annually.

7.Bangladesh, India and Nepal have given nod to operating procedures for movement of passenger vehicles in the sub-region under Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) motor vehicles agreement.

8.Senior BJP leader and former MLC Prof Narayan Sadashiv Pharande passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest.Pharande had served as the chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council from 1998 to 2004 and also as the BJP state president from 1991 to 1995.

9.Iceland's Prime Minister is Katrín Jakobsdóttir, leader of the Left Green Alliance. Jakobsdóttir is 41 years old and a mother of three and becomes the second woman to head a government in Iceland. Capital : Reykjavik , Currency : Iceland Krona.

10.Romanian prime minister Mihai Tudose has announced his resignation. Capital : Bucharest , Currency : Romanian Leu.
