1. Actor Anupam Kher has been appointed the new chairman of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), located in Pune. He succeeds former television actor Gajendra Chauhan.
2. Himachal Pradesh government implemented the Senior Citizen Health Insurance Scheme (SCHIS) to provide easy access to curative geriatric health care services by way of additional cover. The scheme would provide top-up coverage of Rs 30,000 per senior citizen to all existing Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (RSBY) smart card holders. This would be in addition to the basic coverage of Rs 30,000 in Trust and Society mode.
3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved Rs 2,000 crore specifically for setting up Aadhaar centres in post offices, a move that will see private contractors phased out from the data collection process. Aadhaar enrolment and updation facilities will be available in around 15,000 post offices by March 31, 2018. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UIDAI is Dr. Ajay Bhushan Pandey.
4. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has trimmed India’s growth forecast for Financial Year 2017-18. In its latest World Economic Outlook released, the IMF lowered India’s growth forecast for 2017 to 6.7% from its earlier estimate of 7.2 percent.
5. Since 2012, 11 October has been marked as the International Day of the Girl Child. The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face while promoting girls' empowerment and. the fulfilment of their human rights. This year’s theme is “The Power of the Adolescent Girl: Vision for 2030.”
6. Nisha Desai Biswal, former Indian-American assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asia has been appointed as the new president of US India Business Council (USIBC).
7. ICICI Bank, the country's largest private sector bank by consolidated assets, committed financial assistance of Rs. 10 crore to the Indian Armed Forces.
8. Visa has tied up with the Andhra Pradesh government for Digital Dhan Sankalp project. It is an initiative to develop Visakhapatnam into India’s first ‘less cash’ city.The e-transformation of large state-owned service providers of the state into digital payments mode under the Vizag Digital Dhan Sankalp (VDDS) project is now accessible to over 90 percent of the city’s two million-strong population.
9. Shri Vinay Mohan Kwatra has been concurrently accredited as the next Ambassador of India to the Principality of Monaco, with residence in Paris. Mr Kwatra is presently Ambassador of India to France.
10. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has bought an additional 7% stake in Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) for Rs 900 crore from public sector lender IDBI Bank Ltd.This is the largest investment made by the apex rural financial institution so far and raises its total shareholding in Sidbi to 10%.Mohammad Mustafa is SIDBI's CMD.
11. Iceland created history by qualifying for the 2018 World Cup. This is the first time that Iceland qualified for the World Cup. This is the first time when Iceland and Panama will be participants.
12. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis launched ‘MahaLabharthi‘ web portal that will help people get information about all the government schemes that they are eligible for. The web portal, https://www.mahalabharthi.in, works on the basis of personal, educational and professional information provided by a person while registering on it. 
13. The mixed pair of Jemson Ningthoujam and Ankita Bhakat clinched the gold medal as India returned with three medals from the World Archery Youth Championship in Rosario, Argentina.

20. International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA)  to change its status from Non-Governmental Organization to Inter-Governmental Organization.

21. MoU between India and Morocco on cooperation in the field of water resources- The domains of bilateral cooperation under this MoU include-
  • conception, realization, and maintenance of the hydraulic infrastructure,
  • integrated water resources management,
  • flood and drought management;
  • sustainable development and management of groundwater resources,
  • harvesting and valuation of rainfall water and resilience.

22. SANKALP & STRIVE Schemes to boost Skill India Mission-  The Cabinet has approved two new World Bank supported schemes of Rs. 6,655 crore - Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP) and Skill Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE). SANKALP is Rs 4,455 crore Centrally sponsored scheme including Rs. 3,300 crore loan support from World Bank whereas STRIVE is a Rs. 2,200 crore - central sector scheme, with half of the scheme outlay as World bank loan assistance.

23. A new World Payment Report stated that the initiatives of the government and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) will help non-cash transactions grow at a compound annual growth rate of 26.2 percent during 2016 to 2020. Shri B. Sambamurthy is the Interim Chairman of NPCI.


24. German Railways will assist Indian Railways to make country's existing rail corridors semi-high speed. The semi high-speed trains will run at 200 km per hour. Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) was signed between Ministry of Railways and Germany in Rail Bhavan regarding carrying out of feasibility study on existing 643 km Chennai-Kazipet corridor of Indian Railways by German Railways for increasing the speed of passenger trains to 200 kmph on 50.50 percent cost-sharing basis.
25. SBC (Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation) announced the launch of a mobile app - Trade Transaction Tracker - to help customers track the status of their trade transactions on a real-time basis.
26. resident Ram Nath Kovind gave away the National award for senior citizens to Indian boxing coach Gurbax Singh Sandhu and Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management for 2017 to Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak.
27. The Bihar Cabinet has approved reservations for persons with disabilities in government jobs and educational institutions. The cabinet gave its approval during a meeting presided by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
28. Commonwealth Games bronze medallist RMV Gurusaidutt clinched the men's singles title at the Bulgarian International Future Series tournament. Gurusaidutt has defeated Muhammed Ali Kurt (Turkey) in a 35- minute match. The Capital of Bulgaria is Sofia.
29. The International Day for Disaster Reduction was observed across the world on 13 October. The theme for 2017 IDDR is ‘Home Safe Home: Reducing Exposure, Reducing Displacement’.
30. The Union Minister for Finance Arun Jaitley participated in the G-20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) Meeting in Washington D.C
31. The Indian Air Force (IAF) launched an innovative health mobile App named `MedWatch' on the occasion of its 85th anniversary. It was launched by Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa during the Air Force Commanders' Conference in New Delhi.

India, which has more than a fifth (21 percent) of its children wasted (weigh too little for their height), slipped three places to 100th  in the 2017 Global Hunger Index  (GHI). The ranking of India in the list was 97th in 2016.The 2017 GHI released by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) termed India's hunger levels ‘serious’ problem at hand.

Japanese capital city Tokyo has topped The Economist Intelligence Unit's Safe Cities Index 2017, which ranked 60 cities on parameters including personal and health security.Singapore and Japanese city Osaka have ranked second and third, while Indian cities Delhi and Mumbai have ranked 43rd and 45th respectively. Pakistani city Karachi has been ranked the least safe city in the list.
34. Indian Cricketer Yuvraj Singh was announced as the Laureus' first Brand Ambassador.The left-hander becomes Laureus' first Indian ambassador and joins a host of cricket legends in the Laureus Family, including Indian Academy members Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Kapil Dev.
35. Netherlands captain Arjen Robben announced the end of his international career after his country failed to reach the 2018 World Cup finals despite a 2-0 win over Sweden.
36. Gautam Bambawale was appointed as India's new Ambassador to China. Bambawale is an Indian Foreign Service Officer of the 1984 batch.

The State Bank of India has launched a new product to provide a short-term working capital demand loan to its MSME clients. The new initiative, called SME Assist, would offer loans to MSME customers on the basis of their input credit claims under Goods and Services Tax (GST). The loan processing fee under the scheme is Rs 2,000
38. US-based fintech company Mastercard has announced the launch of its global research and development arm Mastercard Labs in Pune, India..s

Communications Minister Manoj Sinha launched the Sampoorna Bima Gram (SBG) Yojana and an initiative for expansion of clientele base of Postal Life Insurance (PLI). Under Sampoorna Bima Gram (SBG) Yojana, at least one village (with min. 100 households) will be identified in each of the revenue districts of the country. Coverage of all households is the primary objective of this scheme.
40 The 44th edition of world largest B2B handicraft and gifts fair entitled IHGF-Delhi Fair (Autumn) 2017 was inaugurated by Smriti Zubin Irani, Union Minister of Textiles in a ceremony at India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida. It is the 4 Day long fair at state-of-the-art India Expo Centre, Greater Noida.
41. UNESCO’s executive board chose former French Culture Minister Audrey Azoulay to be the UN cultural agency’s next leader.Azoulay succeeds outgoing Director-General Irina Bokova of Bulgaria. She was in the post since the last eight-years.
42. The world’s largest combustion research center was inaugurated at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) in Tamil Nadu. The National Centre for Combustion Research and Development (NCCRD) was inaugurated by NITI Aayog member VK Saraswa.
43. The Odisha government's Directorate of Treasuries and Inspection and the State Bank of India have signed an MOU for integration of SBI e-Pay with the cyber treasury.
44. The fifth India-Sri Lanka Joint Training Exercise (JTE) MITRA SHAKTI 2017 started with a grand Opening Ceremony conducted at Aundh Military Station, Pune. The exercise is 14 Day long.
45. Eminent critic, biographer and orator M K Sanu has been chosen for the Mathrubhumi Literary Award for 2016 in recognition of his rich contribution to the Malayalam literature.
46. witzerland's Esther Staubli has become the first female referee to officiate a match at the FIFA U-17 World Cup. She was the referee in the match between Japan and New Caledonia in the final round group E match..

47. Jackson Singh Thounaojam created history at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium by scoring India’s first goal in a FIFA U-17 World Cup during India’s match against Colombia.
48. Veteran and one of India’s eminent historian Satish Chandra passed away the age of 95. Satish’s important works include Mughal Empire and its downfall. He was also the author of NCERT’s leading history book ‘History of Medieval India’.
49. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for four sewerage projects under the Namami Gange programme; and four National Highway projects, at Mokama in Bihar. The total outlay of these projects is over Rs. 3700 crore. 
50. Going digital, the Rajasthan assembly has become the first in India to call attention and adjournment motions and proposals online from legislators to send them to the state government. Speaker Kailash Meghwal has inaugurated the new system by sending a call for an attention motion to the state government with a click of the mouse

One thousand forty-nine (1049) students participated in the record-breaking session. Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Science, Dr Harsh Vardhan stated that PM Narendra Modi to encourage and promote science and the Govt. of India has launched many Flagship Programmes in this regard. 
53. Roger Federer has brushed aside world number one Rafael Nadal 6-4 6-3 to win the Shanghai Masters and register his fourth victory of the year over his Spanish rival.
