1. In her first foreign visit as Defence Minister, Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman left for the Philippines to attend the Southeast Asian Defence Ministers’ Meeting. Rodrigo Duterte is the President of the Philippines.
2. Bangladesh has signed a long-term sales and purchase agreement with an Indian refiner to import gas oil to meet the country’s energy demand. The deal between Bangladesh Petroleum Corp. (BPC) and Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) was signed in presence of India’s external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, who arrived in Dhaka recently on a two-day visit to discuss bilateral issues. 13.The Reserve Bank of India has constituted a 10-member ‘High Level Task Force on Public Credit Registry (PCR) for India’, which will suggest a roadmap for developing a transparent, comprehensive and near-real-time PCR for India.The committee will be Headed by YM Deosthalee, ex-CMD, L&T Finance Holdings.
14. The Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) of India has signed an MoU with Punjab National Bank to provide easy access to finance for SMEs and merchant exporters of the council. Sunil Mehta is the MD & CEO Of Punjab National Bank.
15. Central American country Nicaragua has signed the Paris Agreement on climate change, leaving the United States and Syria as the only two countries holing out to sign this global climate pact. President Donald Trump on 1 June 2017 withdrew the United States from the landmark 2015 Paris agreement to fight climate change. Till June 2017, 195 UNFCCC members have signed the agreement, 148 of which have ratified it.
16. State Bank of India (SBI) has signed an agreement with Escorts Ltd. to finance farmers for purchase of Escorts tractors.The tie-up with Escorts is to promote, market and make accessible, organized finance facility, with superior features, at competitive interest rates to farmers across the country.

IndusInd Bank, in association with MobiKwik had announced the launch of a co-branded wallet ‘IndusInd MobiKwik’ that allows its customers to pay at the MobiKwik merchant network using their accounts, with a ’Direct Debit Feature’. 18. National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) has signed an MoU each with European Business Technology Centre (EBTC) and Lovely Professional University. EBTC is a not-for-profit organization facilitating Europe-India cross-border collaboration in technology transfer and IP management.

The State Bank of India has launched the second edition of its Hackathon named 'Digitize For Bank.'  This hackathon will be held from 1st to12th November 2017. It is presented by SBI Collaborative Innovation Centre (CIC). This edition focuses on four ‘Cognitive’ themes namely Facial Recognition, Signature Recognition, Voice based Authentication and Cheque Truncation Value Enhancers.

@ As per the report, economic inequality goes hand in hand with inequality in reproductive health. As of 2017, half of 1.6 billion women of reproductive age living in developing regions want to avoid a pregnancy.

30. The Union Cabinet has approved the biggest ever highway project to develop and expand approximately 83,000 km of roads at an investment of Rs 6.9 lakh crore by 2022. The project also includes the new Bharatmala highway program connecting border areas, improving international, port and coastal connectivity.
31. The Indian government has announced an allocation of Rs 2.11 lakh crore over 2 years for the recapitalization of public sector banks. As part of the plan, the government will essentially issue bonds to banks worth Rs 1.35 lakh crore while Rs 76,000 crore will come through budgetary support. Lenders will subscribe to these bonds as part of their investment portfolio. The money raised by the government will then be used to recapitalize banks. 
32. The Union Ministries of Power and Textiles have jointly launched an initiative 'SAATHI' (Sustainable and Accelerated Adoption of efficient Textile technologies to Help small Industries). Under this initiative, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a public sector entity under the Union Ministry of Power, will acquire energy efficient Powerlooms, motors and Rapier kits in bulk and provide them to the small and medium powerloom units.
33. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Edapaddi K Palaniswami, laid the foundation stone for an aerospace park at Kanchipuram district to be set up by the State Government in 245 acres and at an estimated cost of Rs 198 crore. Banwarilal Purohit is the present Governor of Tamil Nadu.

35.a. After making Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) mandatory for transactions in interest rate, forex and credit derivative market, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to make LEI compulsory for companies having aggregate fund-based and non-fund based exposure over Rs 5 crore.
b. Banks will be required to capture this number in the Central Repository of Information on Large Credits (CRILC) database that captures details of loan above Rs 5 crore. The LEI number will help banks in monitoring the aggregate exposure of corporate borrowers. Firms can obtain their LEI code from Legal Entity Identifier India Ltd. (LEIL).
c.About LEI- The LEI is a global reference number that uniquely identifies every legal entity or structure that is party to a financial transaction, in any jurisdiction. It is a unique 20 digit alphanumeric code that is assigned to a legal entity.
d.Purpose of an LEI- The global LEI system has been set up by regulatory authorities, including G20 and the Financial Stability Board, to address the global financial crisis. The LEI is designed to enable the identification and linking of parties to financial transactions in order to manage counterparty risk. Its goal is to improve measuring and monitoring of systemic risk and support more cost-effective compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.

41. Reliance Communication had received the final approval on its merger with Sistema from the Department of Telecommunication (DoT). This merger will also extend validity of RCom's spectrum portfolio in the highly valued 800 and 850 MHz band in eight major telecom circles across the country - Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Kolkata, UP-West and West Bengal - by a period of 12 years from 2021 to 2033. 45. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a global conference on consumer protection in New Delhi. This is the first time that an international conference on consumer protection is being organized by India for countries of the region. Twenty-two countries from East, South and South-East Asia are participating in the international conference. These include China, South Korea, Singapore, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

51. The State Bank of India has slashed Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) charges up to 80 percent. If the users are doing an online transaction of money after selecting IMPS option, then they will have to pay 80% less charge than what they used to pay earlier.
a. After the implementation of the revised charges, online transactions will certainly become cheaper. After the revision, no IMPS service charge will be imposed on online transactions under Rs 1000. For the transactions between Rs 1000 and Rs 10,000, the users will have to pay Re 1 while for an amount between Rs 10,001 and Rs 1,00,000, the users will be charged Rs 2.

Indian-origin South African researchers were honored with a prestigious award for their exceptional contributions in the field of HIV/AIDS. Professors Salim Abdool Karim and Quarraisha Abdool Karim received the award from the Institute for Human Virology (IHV) in Baltimore, US.The award was presented to them by Robert Gallo, who discovered HIV as the cause of AIDS‚ at the 19th international meeting of the IHV.
