ONE LINER OF THE DAY 14th MARCH 2020


1.Cabinet has approved building 780-km 'green' National Highway project at a cost of Rs 7,660 cr. Project pertains to rehabilitation & upgradation covering a total length of over 780 km in states of Himachal, Rajasthan, UP & Andhra.Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways: Nitin Gadkari.

2.Central Govt notified Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Rules, 2020 replacing the earlier 2012 Rules, whereby State Govt shall pay the compensation ordered by the Special Court within 30 days of receipt of such order.CJI: Sharad Arvind Bobde.

3.National Stock Exchange (NSE) said it has facilitated the single-largest debt issuance of around Rs. 1,675 crores by an infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) on its platform through its electronic bidding platform.MD & CEO NSE: Vikram Limaye.

4.Union Cabinet approved the Remission of Duties or Taxes on Export Products, a scheme for exporters to reimburse taxes & duties paid by them such as value-added tax, coal cess, mandi tax, electricity duties & fuel used for transportation.India’s exports were $265.26 bn in April-January period.

5.Maharashtra Assembly passed a resolution recommending to the Aurangabad airport in the state be renamed as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Airport. It also passed a resolution to rename Mumbai central station here after philanthropist Nana Shankarsheth.Maharashtra CM: Uddhav Thackeray; Governor: B S Koshyari.

6.Saurashtra won their maiden Ranji Trophy title on the back of their 1st innings lead against Bengal in the final played at SCA Stadium. Jaydev Unadkat broke a 21-year-old record as he became the fast bowler with most wickets in a single Ranji season.Ranji Trophy is a domestic first-class cricket championship.

7.Kotak Mahindra Bank to acquire 50 cr, HDFC- 100 crore, Axis Bank will- 60 crore & ICICI- 100 core of equity shares respectively by investing Rs 500 cr, Rs 1000 cr, Rs 600 cr & Rs 1000 cr at a price of Rs 10 per share in the Yes BankAuthorised cap of Yes Bank raised to Rs 6200 cr from Rs 1100 cr.

8.RBI came out with regulatory guidelines for implementation of Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS) by NBFCs & ARCs while preparing their financial results, aimed at facilitating comparison and better supervision.IND AS have been harmonised with Int. Financial Reporting Stds.

9.RBI revised exposure limits for urban cooperative banks to a single borrower & a group of borrowers to 15% and 25%, respectively, of tier-1 capital. UCBs shall bring down their existing exposures within the revised limits by March 31, 2023.RBI increased overall PSL target for UCBs to 75% of ANBC.

10.Parliament has given its nod to Direct Tax Vivad se Vishwas Bill, 2020. It intends to provide a one-time opportunity to end disputes by giving taxpayers a chance to settle tax disputes by paying their dues without any interest or penalty till March 31.Cap of ₹5 crore in dues included in scheme.

11..Wings India 2020, the biennial civil aviation & aerospace event was launched at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad. UDAN 4.0+ knowledge paper on the changing landscape of Indian aviation sector under regional connectivity scheme was released.Wings India 2020 theme: Flying for All.

12.BSNL has launched its digital payment service, Bharat InstaPay, for its channel partners across the country. It is powered by SBI, which will enable all type of channel partners of BSNL for doing all their payment transactions digitally on 24 X 7 basis.P.K. Purwar, CMD, BSNL.

13.Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) & is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant- the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter- which is 3.14159. Pi has been calculated to over 1 trillion digits beyond its decimal point.Pi will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern.

14.The International Day of Action for Rivers observed on 14 March is a day to celebrate victories such as dam removal. Born out of the first Meeting of People Affected by Dams in Brazil in March 1997, it is an event to celebrate the freshwater ecosystems.It is organised by the International Rivers NGO.

15.Lady Gaga’s flamboyant visual style has inspired the name of a newly discovered insect species. Kaikaia gaga is a new genus of the treehopper bugs found almost three decades ago near the Pacific coast of Nicaragua. Brendan Morris named the species.Morris is a PhD candidate from University of Illinois, US.

16.The Centre has sanctioned Rs 365 Cr for constructing a new Integrated Check Post at Sabroom, the southernmost town in South Tripura district. This will be the 2nd ICP along the Indo-Bangla border in the state after Akhaura ICP, which was set up in 2013.Tripura Chief Minister- Biplab Kumar Deb.

17.Justice Sudhansu Jyoti Mukhopadhaya, the first chairperson of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) who turns 70 on March 15, retired.The government has appointed Justice Bansi Lal Bhat as the officiating chairperson of NCLAT.An NCLAT chairperson is appointed for five years.
