1.Nation celebrates 71st Republic Day today. The main function will be held at Rajpath in New Delhi. President Ram Nath Kovind will unfurl the national flag & take the salute of the parade. President of Brazil Jair Messias Bolsonaro will be the Chief Guest.J&K will participate in the parade for the first time as a UT.

2.5-day National Integration Camp, highlighting the Central Government’s 'Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat' scheme has begun in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Rural artists from more than 16 States & Union Territories are attending the camp to showcase their unique talents.Jammu Kashmir - Ladakh are the cultural partners of Tamil Nadu.

3.Bharat Parv 2020 will begin in New Delhi. Its objective is to encourage people to visit different tourism places of the country & to inculcate the spirit of ‘Dekho Apna Desh’. Theme: Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat & Celebrating 150 Years of Mahatma Gandhi.Programme will be on till 31st January.

4.Department of Biotechnology organized an International Summit on Women in STEM- “Visualizing the Future: New Skylines” on 23 & 24 of January in New Delhi. Overall aim was to boost participation of women in STEM field for development of scientific career.STEM- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

5.First steps have been taken towards ending the use of horses in the creation of antitoxins used to treat diphtheria, said the PETA. Reference is to the creation of recombinant human antibodies capable of blocking the poisonous toxin that causes diphtheria.PETA-People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

6.In Arunachal Pradesh, the two-day ‘Innovation Festival’ kicked off at the Science Centre in Itanagar. The festival is being organized by the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology in collaboration with the National Innovation Foundation.It is aimed to foster the culture of innovation among people.

7.Himachal Pradesh celebrated its 50th Statehood Day with fanfare and enthusiasm throughout the state on 25 January. It was on this day in 1971 when Himachal Pradesh was carved out as the 18th State of the country. CM unveiled the golden jubilee plaque.Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister- Jai Ram Thakur.

8.After Maharashtra, the Madhya Pradesh government made the reading of Preamble of the Constitution mandatory in schools on every Saturday. The Department of School Education stated that orders in this regard have been issued to District Education Officers.Madhya Pradesh CM- Kamal Nath.

9.Shillong witnessed the 1st-ever carnival of peace & harmony as part of the weeklong Meghalaya Day Celebrations. Carnival procession passed through the busy streets of Shillong city showcasing different ethnic communities of the State & neighbouring areas.Meghalaya Chief Minister-Conrad K Sangma.

10.The world’s largest meditation centre and the global headquarters of the Heartfulness Institute will be inaugurated on January 28. To mark the 75th anniversary of the organisation, Kanha Shanti Vanam- spread over 30 acres-will be dedicated to Lalaji.It can accommodate 100,000 practitioners at one go.

11.Siemens has signed an agreement to acquire C&S Electric Ltd, for Rs 2,100 Cr. Move will strengthen Siemens’ position as a key supplier of low-voltage power distribution & electrical installation technology in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.C&S is a leading provider of electrical & electronic equipment.

12.The maiden Ganga Volga Dialogue held in Delhi was conceptualized during the 2018 India-Russia Summit between President Putin & Modi. Utilization of the $1 billion LoC extended by India for development of Russia’s Far East by Indian companies was discussed.The dominant theme of the discussions was Connectivity.

13.The 13th edition of the International Children’s Film Festival of Bangladesh was inaugurated in Dhaka. The festival is one of the biggest film events in Bangladesh. It is the only international film festival for children and young adults of the country.Theme of this year’s festival is ‘Under the World’.

14.The 62nd annual Grammy Awards will take place in Los Angeles, USA on 26 January 2020. Billed as "music's biggest night", the ceremony is more like "music's longest day" - with festivities kicking off at lunchtime in LA and stretching out into the night.Popstar Lizzo leads the nominations this year, with 8 in total.

15.Aunties, uncles & tube lights have made it to the latest edition of Oxford dictionary, with 26 new Indian English words being added to a total of 384 existing ones. 10th edition of the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary come with an Indian English label.Oxford Dictionaries Hindi Word of the Year for 2018-Nari Shakti.
