1.The RBI has amended the KYC norms allowing banks and other lending institutions regulated by it to use Video based Customer Identification Process (V-CIP), a move which will help them onboard customers remotely. V-CIP is a consent based alternative method.Video recording should be stored in a safe and secure manner.
2.SBI has announced RBBG scheme aims at giving a push to residential sales and improve homebuyers' confidence. Under this scheme, SBI will issue a guarantee for completion of select residential projects to customers who have availed home loans from it.Guarantee will be till the project gets Occupation Certificate.
3.Census India-2021 will begin on 1st of April 2020 and will end on 30th of September. Census India-2021 will be conducted through a mobile phone application, moving away from the traditional pen and paper. The 15th Indian Census took place in 2011.It is the 16th Indian Census and 8th after Independence.
4.Over 1000 Fast Track Special Courts will be set up in the country for speedy disposal of cases relating to rape & Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. These courts will be set-up as a part of the National Mission for Safety of Women.Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2018 has already enacted.
5.The City of Destiny-Visakhapatnam is gearing up to host International Naval event ‘MILAN’ in March 2020. MILAN is a multilateral naval exercise aimed to enhance professional interaction between friendly foreign navies. Theme- ‘Synergy Across the Seas’.41 navies have been invited for the exercise.
6.Agricultural Scientist Dr M S Swaminathan and well-known social worker, Dr. Gutta Muniratnam were respectively chosen as the first recipients of ‘Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu National Award for Excellence’ & ‘Muppavarapu National Award for Social Service’.Each award carries a cash prize of Rupees Five Lakh & citation.
7.South Asian Trade & Travel Exchange Expo-2020 sponsored by J&K Tourism Dept & supported by Ministry of Tourism has begun in New Delhi. The 27th Edition of SATTE has witnessed participation of over 1,000 delegates from over 50 countries & 28 Indian states.SATTE is an important avenue for the promotion of tourism.
8.India-born author Jasbinder Bilan has bagged a coveted UK children's book award for her debut novel 'Asha and the Spirit Bird'. The story set in the Himalayan territory of her Indian roots and inspired by the special childhood bond with her grandmother.Bilan will receive 5,000 pounds as the winner of the award.
9.The Kabaddi and gymnastics began on 10 January in the third Khelo India youth games. The opening ceremony of the event will be held at Sarusajai stadium, Guwahati. It will be conducted in partnership with IOA, School Games Federation of India & Assam.Assam CM-Sarbanand Sonowal, Union Sports minister-Kiren Rijjju.
10.Indian embassies in different countries celebrated Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas on 9 January to mark the contribution of Overseas Indian community in the growth of India. On 9 January 1915 Mahatma Gandhi-the greatest Pravasi-returned to India from South Africa.Later he led freedom struggle & changed the lives of Indians.
