1.The Union cabinet chaired by Narendra Modi has given approval to Memorandum of Understanding between India & Argentina on cooperation in the field of Medical Products Regulation. It will help in increasing India’s export of medical products to Argentina.Argentina's President Mauricio Macri visited India on 17 Feb.
2.Development Credit Bank announced the launch of its Open Banking Platform. Over 20 startups, fintech, merchants, enterprises and developers will partner with DCB for access to its Open Banking Platform APIs.DCB CMD-Murali Natrajan; HeadQuarters- Mumbai.
3.Cabinet approved the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2019. It'll benefit SCs & STs in promotion in service and extend reservation of up to 10% to Economically Weaker Sections in education and public employment.Jammu & Kashmir is under President's Rule since 20 December 2018
4.Due to low passenger occupancy, Indian Railways has cancelled the bi-weekly Samjhauta Express till further notification. Railways said that since the train is not coming from Pakistan, therefore, India cancelled the Delhi-Attari service.The Partition Museum is in the town hall in Amritsar.
5.The government has granted the license to provide internet across domestic flights and ships in India to Hughes Communications India Limited (HCIL). Flight internet connectivity is expected to be available from April-May 2019.HCIL is a subsidiary of US broadband services provider EchoStar.
6.The RBI approved the merger of Singapore-based DBS Bank's Indian unit with its wholly owned local subsidiary, DBS Bank India. The merger will be effective from March 1 that will allow the foreign lender to be treated as a local bank, removing certain restrictions.DBS was the 1st bank in India to launch digital-only operations.
7.India's GDP growth moderated to 6.6% in the Oct-Dec quarter of 2018-19, the lowest in five quarters, from 7% in the previous quarter. India is still the fastest-growing major economy. GDP growth forecast was revised for the current fiscal from 7.2 to 7%.HSBC forecasted India’s growth rate to be 7% for FY 2018-19.
8.The Union Cabinet has approved the National Policy on Software Products - 2019 to develop India as a Software Product Nation. An outlay of Rs.1500 Crore is involved to implement the schemes under this policy over a period of 7 years.Union Minister of Electronics & IT- Ravi Shankar Prasad.
9.The 2019 GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) took place from 25–28 February 2019 in Barcelona, Spain. The MWC is the world's largest exhibition for the mobile industry featuring prominent global mobile operators, device manufacturers & technology providers.The MWC 2020 will take place in Shanghai, China.
10.Zero Discrimination Day is observed on March 1 and it aims to address the issue of discrimination faced by people across the world. The day further intend to achieve equality before law throughout all member countries of the UN. The theme for Zero Discrimination Day 2019 is 'Act to change laws that Discriminate'.
