ONE LINER OF THE DAY 15th OCTOBER 2018.


1.The Election Commission of India is introducing the unique internet based mobile app C-vigil in the upcoming assembly polls.The ‘C-vigil stands for citizens vigil’ and will be operationalized for the first time as a pilot project.The C-Vigil mobile application gives the common man the opportunity to click pictures and take videos of violations and send it to concerned election officers.

2.India men’s and women’s team won silver medals each in the Hockey competition at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.Men’s hockey team was defeated by Malaysia and Women’s hockey team was defeated by Argentina.

3.The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) launched a chatbot, Ask Disha.It is aimed at facilitating accessibility by answering users’ queries pertaining to various services offered by IRCTC.Ask Disha- is powered by artificial intelligence (AI).The Ask Disha chatbot has been developed by IRCTC and CoRover Private Limited.

4.Maryse Conde won an alternative award formed in protest to the Nobel Literature Prize which got cancelled in 2018.Maryse Condé won the New Academy prize in literature.The New Academy was founded by more than 100 Swedish writers, artists and journalists.Condé is the author of some 20 novels, including Desirada, Segu and Crossing the Mangrove.

5.6th edition of India International Silk Fair (IISF) will be inaugurated in New Delhi on October 16, 2018.At the event, 108 exhibitors of silk and blended silk will display their products.The fair is organised by the Indian Silk Export Promotion Council.India is the second largest producer of silk in the world.

6.Sikkim has won 2018 UN Food and Agriculture Organisation’s Future Policy for Gold Award.The award was given for its achievement in becoming the world’s first totally organic agriculture state.Sikkim was declared fully organic state in 2016 after phasing out chemical fertilisers and pesticides.

7.Shekhar Mande has been appointed as Director-General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.Dr Mande, a biologist, is the director of the National Centre for Cell Sciences, Pune.He has worked at the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad.

9.Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi has come out with a nearly 200-page book titled “Lalu Leela”.The book documents “benami” land deals allegedly involving the RJD national president, Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members.

10.Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh launched three mobile apps aimed at checking crop residue burning.The apps also aim to create awareness about the effects of crop residue burning on the environment and human health.The three Android mobile applications have been developed by Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC).The three apps are i-Khet Machine, e-PEHaL and e-Prevent.
