ONE LINER OF THE DAY 3rd. SEPEMBER 2018.


1.The Indian men’s hockey team beat Pakistan by 2-1 to clinch a bronze medal on the 14th day of Asian Games 2018.Akashdeep Singh (3rd minute) and Harmanpreet Singh (50th minute) scored two goals for India in the match.

2.Japanese swimmer Ikee Rikako has been named as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 18th edition of Asian Games.She became the first female athlete to win the MVP title.Rikako bagged six gold and two silver medals in the tournament. She received $50,000 as prize money.

3.The ‘Delhi Movelo Cyclothon‘ organised by NITI Aayog was flagged off by Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on September 2, 2018.The nine-km Cyclothon aims to create awareness about future of transportation and evolving technologies in the sector.The initiative mainly focuses on urban areas to curb congestion and vehicular pollution.

4.Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated first hi-tech cruise ‘Alaknanda’ on the banks of river Ganga in Varanasi.This double-decker cruise  with around 2,000 square feet area can accommodate 60 passengers

5.According to RBI data, Mauritius remained the top source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into India in 2017-18 followed by Singapore.While FDI from Mauritius totalled $13.41 billion as against $13.38 billion in 2017, inflows from Singapore rose to $9.27 billion from $6.52 billion.

6.India and Singapore launched the next round of review for their existing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with a view to further boost bilateral trade and investments between the countries.The FTA is officially known as the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement.

7.Commerce & Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu attended the 6th East Asia Summit- Economic Ministers’ Meeting (EAS-EMM) and 15th India-ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting (AEM) in Singapore.Singapore is currently holding the Chair of ASEAN.It was also announced in the Singapore meeting that the 2019 ASEAN-India Business Summit will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

8.President Ram Nath Kovind is on a three-nation visit to Cyprus, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic from 2-9 September.The capitals of these countries are as follow- Cyprus- Nicosia, Bulgaria- Sofia, Czech Republic- Prague.

9.International tourist arrivals hit record high in 2017 with India leading the growth in South Asian region.According to data from the UN World Tourism Organisation, a specialized agency of the United Nations, a total of 1,323 million international tourist arrivals recorded in destinations around the world.

10,For the first time, US India Business Council (USIBC) is holding its annual general body meeting in India.The two-day conference will begin on September 5, 2018 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.The theme of the conference is ‘US and India connecting our future’.The summit is being held on the eve of the maiden 2+2 India-US dialogue in New Delhi on September 6, 2018.
