ONE LINER OF THE DAY 11th. SEPEMBER 2018.


1.An international children rights charity based in Switzerland has been awarded the 2018 ‘Balzan Prize’ for humanitarian achievement.The Balzan Foundation announced that ‘Terre des Hommes‘ will receive 1 million Swiss francs (USD 1 million) for a project in the African nation of Mali.In 2018, prizes were awarded for social anthropology, global history, chemical ecology and fluid dynamics.

2.Yes Bank has raised $400 million through syndicated loan facility, borrowed out of its IFSC Banking Unit (IBU) in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT).The bank said this amount will be utilized to support the IBU’s growing business.According to Rana Kapoor (MD and CEO, Yes Bank) Yes Bank’s IBU has crossed $3 billion balance sheet within 3 years of starting operations at GIFT City.

3.A joint military training exercise between India and USA named as “Yudh Abhyas 2018” will be conducted in Uttarakhand from 16 to 29 September.This is the 14th edition of the joint military exercise hosted alternately by both the countries.

4.The 4th edition of World Summit on Accreditation pertaining to educational institutes took place in New Delhi.The Summit is a biennial event organized by the National Board of Accreditation which provides a platform to its stakeholders to share their knowledge and information on accreditation.The theme for 2018 is ‘Challenges and Opportunities in Outcome-Based Accreditation’.

5.Hurricane Florence threatening the southeastern coast of the United States strengthened into a Category 3 “major” hurricane.Hurricane Florence is a powerful tropical cyclone over the Atlantic Ocean.

6.The military field training exercise for the ‘Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technological and Economic Cooperation‘ (BIMSTEC) nations called ‘MILEX-18‘ was inaugurated on 10th September 2018 at Aundh Military Station near Pune.

8.India and Bangladesh jointly inaugurated three projects in Bangladesh on 10th September 2018.These include 500 MW additional power supply from India to Bangladesh, Akhaura – Agartala Rail Link and Rehabilitation of the Kulaura-Shahbazpur section of Bangladesh Railways. Akhaura-Agartala Rail Link would connect Akhaura in Bangladesh with Tripura’s capital city Agartala.

9.Justice Om Prakash Mishra has been sworn in as new Chief Justice of Nepal.The President Vidya Devi Bhandari administered oath of office and secrecy to Justice Mishra in Kathmandu.

10.India and Afghanistan agreed to enhance cooperation under the ‘New Development Partnership’.India had announced taking up 116 “high impact community developmental projects” in Afghanistan.The decision was taken at the 3rd meeting of the ‘Joint Working Group on Political and Security Cooperation’ between India and Afghanistan in Kabul.
