ONE LINER OF THE DAY 17th March 2018.


1.Sangeeta Bahadur has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Belarus. She is an IFS officer of 1987 batch.She is currently Additional Secretary in Ministry of External Affairs.

2.President Donald Trump named Larry Kudlow as the next head of the White House National Economic Council. He has replaced Gary Cohn.Mr Kundlow is the conservative media analyst who served as his informal economic adviser during the 2016 campaign.

3.Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and his government resigned as a way out of the political crisis triggered by the slayings of an investigative journalist and his fiancee. Slovak President Andrej Kiska accepted the resignation.

4.Bor Tiger Reserve is a wildlife sanctuary which was declared as a tiger reserve in July 2014. It is located near Hingani in Wardha District in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

5.India for the first time will host 17th Annual Conference of International Competition Network 2018 (ICN2018) from 21st to 23rd March 2018 in New Delhi.The ICN is an informal network comprising 138 competition authorities from 125 jurisdictions.This Annual Conference is a key international platform in the field of competition law and policy.

6.The Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $120 million loan agreement with India to improve the operational efficiency of Indian railways.The loan amount will be used for doubling the railway tracks and electrification of tracks along high-density corridors.The investment program is targeting routes in the states of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

7.NITI Aayog will release comprehensive roadmaps and detailed timelines for its initiative ‘Sustainable Action for Transforming Human Capital in Education ’ project at NITI Aayog.SATHE will introduce System-wide Governance Transformation in School Education.These roadmaps present customized, action-oriented programmes, outlining interventions at the individual, district and State level.

8.The Indian Air Force (IAF) for first time flawlessly landed its largest transport US-manufactured aircraft, C-17 Globemaster at strategic Tuting Advanced landing ground in Arunachal Pradesh.The landing of this aircraft is seen as part of IAF’s move to strengthen its overall operations in the border state.

9.The Human Resource Development Ministry would soon set up “innovation cell” that would explore ideas to strengthen innovation efforts in education.The “Innovation Cell” would be headed by a scientist and would be comprised of a senior ministry official and young professionals.The move comes after India’s ranking in the Global Innovation index Ranking moved up to 60 in 2017 from 66 in 2016.

10.Finland has overtaken Norway to become the happiest nation on earth, according to the UN’s 2018 World Happiness Report.Burundi in East Africa is the unhappiest place in the world.For the first time, the UN also examined the happiness levels of immigrants in each country.The World Happiness Report is an annual publication from the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
