1.India will set up a $350 million fund to finance solar projects, Power Minister R.K. Singh said, as the country steps up efforts to achieve its ambitious target of adding 175 gigawatts (GW) in renewable energy by 2022.India will need at least $125 billion to fund a plan to increase the share of renewable power supply in the country’s grid by 2022, underlining the immense financing challenge ahead.
2.Apple named the world’s most admired company for 2018 : Technology giant Apple has topped Fortune magazine’s list of the ‘World’s Most Admired Companies’ for 2018.Amazon has retained its 2nd spot followed by Google’s parent Alphabet.
3.Mauritius was the largest source of foreign investment in India (21.8 percent share at market value), followed by the US and the UK, according to a census by the Reserve Bank of India. Singapore and Japan were the next two sources of foreign direct investment (FDI), reported the Census on Foreign Liabilities and Assets of Indian Direct Investment Companies 2016-17, released by RBI.
4. India should sell bad loans online like US : RBI Dep Gov. RBI Deputy Governor Viral Acharya has called for setting up an online trading platform to sell bad loans similar to the one in the US. He added that such a platform will help India achieve a thriving market for the sale of bad loans.
5.Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday launched an official anthem for “Bharat Ke Veer”, an initiative with a corpus fund to help the families of paramilitary troopers killed in the line of duty.The anthem, sung and composed by singer Kailash Kher, was launched at an event here attended by Mr. Singh, Ministers of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and Hansraj Ahir, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar.
6.The fourth edition of the India International Science Festival will be held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The decision to hold the Festival in Lucknow was taken at the first preparatory meeting for the 4th India International Science Festival (IISF). The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Science & Technology, Dr. Harsh Vardhan. The 1st IISF was held at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) New Delhi. India had also set a Guinness Book of World Records when 2000 school students performed two experiments at the Festival.
7.National capital New Delhi will host the Ramayana Festival of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries at the Kamani Auditorium from January 20 to 24.The five-day gala festival to be organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations will witness the convergence of top groups from all 10 ASEAN member countries - Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam.
"The event will feature performances by cultural troupes from all 10 ASEAN countries. Through the Ramayana, the festival will showcase spectacular choreography rooted in the performing arts' traditions of South East Asia."
8.Uttarakhand introduced for the first time in the country, ultrasound will be performed on wild animals to detect pregnancy before administering reproduction control method on them. The state government has granted the certification to use ultrasound machines for detection of pregnancy in wild animals.
9.The Mettur Dam is one of the largest dams in India and the largest in Tamilnadu located across the river Cauvery where it enters the plains. Built in 1934 took 9 years to complete.
