ONE LINER OF THE DAY 24th DEC.


1.The Uttar Pradesh Assembly today passed a bill to award death penalty and life imprisonment to those dealing in spurious liquor if its consumption leads to any death.It also provides for rigourous imprisonment up to 10 years and not less than six years in case of disability caused by consumption of spurious liquor and fine to the tune of Rs five lakh and not less than Rs three lakh.

2.The government of Andhra Pradesh entered into an agreement with the moonshot factory of Alphabet (earlier Google) X to bring the breakthrough Free Space Optical. Communication (FSOC) technology in order to provide internet through the government Fibergrid project. This association with X labs to implement FSOC in AP is first of its kind in the world to provide wireless internet connection at a higher speed of up to 20Gbps and to a distance of up to 20kms.


3.Joda East Iron Mine (JEIM) of Tata Steel has been honoured with the prestigious Golden Peacock Innovation Management Award for the year 2017 for driving innovation in mines.The coveted award, given in recognition of innovation management, was received by Debashis Jena, Chief Joda, Tata Steel at Institute of Directors India’s 2nd Global Convention held at Singapore recently.





4.AU Small Finance Bank announced signing an MoU with Sahaj e-Village for extending its banking service in remote areas through Business Correspondent Agent (BC) model. With this MoU, AU Bank will be able to further foster its mission of financial inclusion and greater customer outreach. As per the agreement, the BCs will act as an intermediary between the Bank and the customers in the interior locations where the Bank does not have a presence.

5.has overtaken for the first time to become India's top crude oil supplier in the current fiscal, helped by sales of discounted heavy crude, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said.


6.Banks should frame their KYC policies incorporating the following four key elements: Customer Acceptance Policy; Customer Identification Procedures; Monitoring of Transactions; and Risk Management.


7.KYC means “Know Your Customer”. It is a process by which banks obtain information about the identity and address of the customers. This process helps to ensure that banks’ services are not misused. The KYC procedure is to be completed by the banks while opening accounts. Banks are also required to periodically update their customers’ KYC details.


8.International Anti-Corruption Day has been observed annually, on 9 December, since the passage of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption on 31 October 2003.

9.Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December – the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

10.Every year on December 7, the three defence forces – Army, Navy and the Air Force – observe Armed Forces Flag Day to honour the men in uniform who made the supreme sacrifice while protecting the borders of the country. Since 1949, December 7 is observed as the Armed Forces Flag Day to honour the martyrs and the men in uniform who valiantly fought on the borders to safeguard the country’s honour.
