1.The Union government informed the Supreme Court that it will extend up to March 31, 2018 the deadline fixed for mandatory linking of Aadhaar with various schemes, including one’s bank accounts. However, said the last date for linking Aadhaar to mobile services will remain February 6, 2018 in pursuance of a judicial order.
2.The National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated annually on 14th December. The 14th President of India Mr. Ram Nath Kovind was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
3.Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced that it will fund highway upgradation project in Karnataka for which it has approved a loan of USD 346 million. The project will carry out a road safety survey to identify critical accident spots across the state highways and carry out measures to improve these.
4.The government has engaged private lender ICICI Bank to enable online payments at 470 mandis integrated with national portal of electronic National Agriculture Market (e-NAM). The effort is to provide seamless experience for making online payment of trade and services undertaken on the e-NAM platform.
5.Norway became the world’s first country to shut down national broadcasts of its FM network by completing its transition to digital radio. The transition concerns only national radio channels.
6.World youth champion Sachin Siwach has been named the Asian Boxing Confederation’s best youth boxer of the year after winning an online poll conducted by the continental body.
7.India’s Kumbh Mela has been recognised by UNESCO as an “intangible cultural heritage of humanity”. The Kumbh Mela, held in Allahabad, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nasik, represents a syncretic set of rituals related to worship and cleansing in holy rivers.
8.Jitesh Singh Deo from Lucknow was declared the winner of the 2017 Mr India pageant. Indian footballer Prathamesh Maulingkar won the title of Mr India Supranational and will compete at Mr Supranational 2018.
9.Eminent Hindi writer Mamta Kalia will be honoured with literary award Vyas Samman for year 2017 for her novel “Dukkham Sukkham”. The writer will receive an amount of Rs 3.5 lakh as the prize money.
10.A day after the 61st death anniversary (6th Dec 2017) of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi and said that it would become an important institution for research and economic issues.
