1.The 22nd edition of the Malabar trilateral naval exercise of the US, Japan and India kicked off on June 7 at Guam in the Pacific Ocean and will continue till June 16.This is the first time that the prestigious Malabar exercise is being conducted off Guam, a major US Naval Base in the Western Pacific.
2.The indigenous Pinaka rocket system of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is being evolved into a precision-guided missile.Pinaka rocket system is known for firing a salvo of 12 rockets in just 44 seconds, with enhanced range and accuracy to hit its targets.The rocket has been developed by the Armament cluster of the DRDO.
3.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the country’s 10th Smart City Integrated Command and Control Centre at Naya Raipur.Naya Raipur is the upcoming capital city of Chhattisgarh and the country’s first smart greenfield city.Nine other cities under Integrated Command and Control Centre are in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Pune, Nagpur, Rajkot, Visakhapatnam, Bhopal and Kakinada.
4.Karnataka Bank has unveiled a novel card variant ‘KBL Deposit Only Card’.The card aims to enable hassle free cash deposit transaction at Bank’s 24×7 e-Lobby services.This card is specially meant for Bank’s Current/Overdraft customers.By using this card they can perform card based cash deposit transactions even with higher deposit limit.
5.NITI Aayog has released a Composite Water Management Index (CWMI) of Indian states comprising 9 broad sectors with 28 different indicators covering various aspects.Gujarat topped the list while Jharkhand has been adjudged as the worst performer.Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra have been placed after Gujarat respectively.
6.The government is planning to make it compulsory for unlisted companies to get their shares dematerialised by September 2018.Additionally, corporate affairs ministry has instructed all unlisted companies with paid-up capital of more than Rs 50 million to digitalise shares by June 2018.The aim is to make transactions in more than 70000 unlisted companies more transparent.
7.SoftBank Group Corp has decided to invest $60 billion-$100 billion in a solar power project in India.The company is expected to make the investment through a fund backed by Saudi Arabia’s government.SoftBank through its Vision Fund would invest in creating the world’s biggest solar power project in Saudi Arabia.
8.Dhivya Suryadevara has been named the chief financial officer of the United States’ largest automaker, General Motors.Dhivya will report to chief executive officer (CEO) Mary Barra who is also the first woman in the auto industry.
9.The Union Cabinet has approved a proposal for enactment of a new Dam Safety Bill, 2018.The Bill seeks to establish a national regulatory body for dam safety and create a database of the existing dams.India has more than 5,200 large dams and another 450 are under construction.
10.The northeast is the only region in India for which the Centre has formulated a Regional Road Corporation to boost development.Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced this in a meeting of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).The eight states of the northeast will now receive 100 per cent funding for central schemes.
