1.The Union Health ministry has approved two schemes of the Odisha government for the establishment of two new Government Medical Colleges in Balasore and Balangir districts of the state with 100 seats each, for the academic year 2018-19.
2.India emerged as the third largest solar market in the world in 2017 behind China and the US, Mercom Communications India said in a report.As per the report, India set a new record with 9.6 GW of solar installations in 2017, which was more than double the 4.3 GW installed in 2016.
3.Delhi will become the world’s largest city in a decade by 2028, according to the UN.Based on the revised World Urbanisation Prospects 2018 report of UN, Delhi is projected to surpass Tokyo as the world’s largest agglomeration around the year 2028. Tokyo remains the world’s largest city in the world with 37 million inhabitants currently.
4.Guwahati now has India’s first railway station run by solar power. The project of installing solar panels was commissioned last year in April 2017.
5.Delhi is projected to become the most populous city in the world around 2028, according to new United Nations estimates, which said India is expected to add the largest number of urban dwellers by 2050.
6.A short film, ‘Raaya’, about an autistic girl has been chosen as India’s official entry into the Cannes Film Festival 2018. The film is produced by Rakesh Gupta and written by hypnotherapist Richa Agarwal.The film is scheduled to exhibit at the 71st Cannes Festival on May 18, second to last day of the festival.
7.The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of ₹50,000 on Universal Co-operative Urban Bank Ltd, Mancherial, Telangana with respect to violations on loans and advances.The apex bank in a release said the Cooperative Bank had violated its directive and guidelines on loans and advances to directors and their relatives.
8.The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved an initial Corpus of Rs.5,000 crore for setting up of a dedicated “Micro Irrigation Fund” (MIF) with NABARD under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY).The allocation of Rs. 2,000 crore and Rs. 3,000 crore will be utilised during 2018-19 and 2019-20 respectively.Borrowings from NABARD shall be paid back in 7 years including the grace period of two years.
9.Virginia based award winning writer and journalist Tom Wolfe, who is noted for works like “The Bonfire of the Vanities”, “The Right Stuff” and “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test” has passed away in the US. He was 88.
10.Betla National Park is a national park located on the Chota Nagpur Plateau in the Latehar district of Jharkhand, India. The park hosts a wide variety of wildlife.
