ONE LINER OF THE DAY 9th March 2018.


1.Financial services platform Paytm’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Paytm Money has received approval from market regulator SEBI to become a Registered Investment Advisor.The nod from the SEBI will allow the company to roll out investment and wealth management products to consumers across the country.The platform has planned to start with direct plan mutual funds investments with zero commission.

2.The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare extended till March 18 the deadline for the competition to design a logo and tagline for the Ayushman Bharat programme.The Ayushman Bharat programme is the world’s largest government-funded health programme that includes the National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS), under which 10 crore poor families will be provided medical coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year.

3.The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a monetary fine of Rs 40 lakh on the country’s biggest lender the State Bank of India over counterfeit notes.After Inspection RBI found a violation of its instructions issued on the detection and impounding of counterfeit notes.The RBI had imposed a fine on Axis Bank and Indian Overseas Bank for not complying with the “known your customer” regulations.

4.China’s heavy-lift “Long March-5B carrier rocket”, which is capable of carrying a payload of 25,000 kg in low earth orbit, will be launched into space in 2019.It will help carry the core module and experimental modules to China’s space station.The carrier rocket will undergo testing this month in preparation for the first launch mission.

5.The Karnataka government has unveiled a state flag. The flag design will now be sent to the Central Government for approval, following which it will be announced as the state flag.The unveiled flag consists of three colors- red, white and yellow and has state emblem “Ganda Bherunda”, a two-headed mythical bird in the middle.Karnataka previously had an unofficial yellow and red flag. But after repeated demands for a separate flag, the state government formed a nine-member committee to work upon a design for the official state flag in July 2017.

6.According to the independent global property consultancy Knight Frank’s Wealth Report 2018, Mumbai ranked 47th on the “city wealth index” among 314 cities in the world.  The “city wealth index” is drawn from four major indicators — wealth, investments, lifestyle and future.Guangzhou, a city in China, tops the list with property prices appreciating by 27.4% in the last one year.

7.The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) has tied-up with NITI Aayog for the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) initiative.Through a joint programme, Ficci and NITI Aayog shall provide hand-holding, mentorship, capacity building, scaling up and networking support to 100 technology led women enterprises over a period of five years.

8.The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, in association with the Government of Uttar Pradesh, is organizing a Women’s Convention – called Swachh Shakti 2018 on International Women’s Day on 8th March at Lucknow.Uttar Pradesh will be hosting Swachh Shakti 2018 as the largest State in the country.Swachh Shakti 2018 will provide momentum to the sanitation coverage in Uttar Pradesh.

9.French President Emmanuel Macron has arrived for a four-day-visit (March 9 to 12) to India, on the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.The visit of President Macron is aimed at strengthening the bilateral economic, political and strategic dimension of our engagement.

10.Haryana’s first cyber police station, equipped with a digital forensic laboratory, was inaugurated in Gurugram. It will have a dedicated team of 35 specially trained cops, including two inspectors.V. Umashankar, CEO of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), inaugurated the station. The police station will have modern equipment to deal with crimes in the cyber world.
