1.Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah inaugurated the new Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction railway station, which was earlier known as Mughalsarai.Decked-up in saffron colour now, the station is one of the oldest and biggest railway junctions in the state.

2.Chinese scientists claimed to have created the world’ first single-chromosome yeast while not affecting the majority of its functions, a breakthrough that could help in furthering research related to aging and diseases in humans.Brewer’s yeast, one-third of whose genome is said to share ancestry with humans, has 16 chromosomes.

3.As many as 21 public sector banks (PSBs) and three major private sector lenders have collected a whopping Rs 5,000 crore from customers for non-maintenance of minimum balance in their accounts in 2017-18.Among the PSBs, the State Bank of India emerged the highest earner with Rs 2433 crore penalty – nearly half of the total collection.

4.India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar withstood intense pressure and produced one of the best shots of the week on the 17th hole which eventually sealed his ninth Asian Tour win at the Fiji International golf tournament in Fiji.

6.The nominating committee of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has selected Ajay Data, Founder & CEO of Data XGen Plus and a global leader in email linguistic services, as a new council member of Country Code Supporting Organisation (ccNSO).Ajay Data is the first Indian to have been selected as a member of ccNSO and will be representing India at a global level.

7.The city of Kolkata will be the venue for the next event of the ‘CuppaSchoola’ karate tournament, run by the Indian Professional Karate Council (IPKC) and the Boutspro Ultimate Karate League.The IPKC and BUKL on 4th August hosted the ‘CuppaSchoola National Capital Region Karate Tournament’ at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi,

8.FICCI Ladies Organisation, the women’s wing of Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has launched a mobile application aimed at creating awareness on preventive Healthcare.The mobile application “WOW” (Wellness of Women) is backed by city-based Apollo hospitals group that offers access to renowned doctors and provides health tips.

9.The government of Karnataka launched the ‘Swachhameva Jayate’campaign in a bid to step up the cleanliness and hygiene efforts of the state. It programme, implemented by the Rural Decelopment and Panchayat Raj Department of the state, will first focus on rural areas.

10.The government has launched ‘Mukhya Mantri-Yuva Nestham’, a scheme through which an allowance of Rs 1000 per month will be provided to unemployed youth in the state. The decision was taken in a state cabinet meeting held in Amaravathi.
