ONE LINER OF THE DAY 3rd August 2018


1.Mauritius-based SBM Group has received Reserve Bank of India’s approval to operate in the country through a wholly-owned subsidiary route. It is the first foreign lender to receive such a licence after local incorporation was introduced in 2013.Singapore’s DBS Bank is another lender which is awaiting final approval from the RBI to convert its 12 branches into a wholly owned subsidiary. 

2. According to the state Minister for Public Health Engineering Banwari Lal, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs 772 crore for eight water projects in the rural areas of Haryana.Works on these projects, which will supply water to 256 villages and 72 hamlets, are in progress. The state government has sent three more project proposals, costing Rs 236.85 crore, to NABARD for financial assistance.

3.India's economy is expected to clock GDP growth of 7.5% in this financial year according to a Morgan Stanley report.In aggregate, the report expect GDP growth to pick up to 7.5% in this financial year as against 6.7% in 2017-18.

4.Ranchi-based software developer Ranjit Srivastava is developing the world's first Hindi-speaking humanoid robot, claimed to cost just Rs50,000 so far.Named Rashmi, the AI-powered robot can also speak Bhojpuri, Marathi, and English, and is equipped with facial expressions and recognition systems.

5.Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu launched a logo and tagline for Geographical Indications (GI) to increase awareness about intellectual property rights (IPRs) in the country. The slogan for the GI tag is- 'Invaluable Treasures of Incredible India'.A GI product is primarily an agricultural, natural or a manufactured product (handicraft and industrial goods) originating from a definite geographical territory. 

6.NITI Aayog has launched Move Hacka global mobility hackathon to crowdsource solutions aimed at the future of mobility in India. Envisaged to be one of the largest hackathons globally, Move Hack is focused on 10 themes and structured over three legs: online, followed by Singapore leg, and the finals in New Delhi.The winners will be announced during the Move Summit 2018, which is also organized by NITI Aayog in September 2018 in New Delhi. Awards for the hackathon include recognizing top 10 winners, with total prize of more than Rs. 2 crores. 

7.Ministry of textiles and Ministry of Power launched SAATHI (Sustainable and Accelerated Adoption of efficient Textile technologies to Help Small Industries) initiative in the power loom sector.Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) will replace old electric motors with new IE3 motors.The use of these efficient equipments will result in energy savings and cost savings to the unit owners.

8.Eminent personalities from different fields, including Bollywood song writer Javed Akhtar, were presented the Delhi government’s “Hindi Sahitya Academy Samman”.Akhtar was awarded the ‘Shalaka Samman’ for his contribution to the world of films and poetry.Veteran theatre director M K Raina received the ‘Shikar Samman’.

9.Jalees Sherwani, who had penned lyrics for several films like Dabangg, Wanted and Tere Naam, passed away. He was 70.
